Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

12 weeks to Boston

Schedule calls for VO2 max workout:  9 miles w/ 6 x 800m @ 5K race pace; jog 2 min between.  One look at that mucky air tells me there ain't gonna be any VO2 max today.  I opted to run indoor and watch the historical Presidential Inauguration instead.  Cranked up the big fan, turned the TV to blasting volume, set the incline at 2% and off I went.  My favorite part of the Inauguration was the musical number, Aire & Simple Gifts, by Izaac, YoYo and ensemble.  I would like my children or grandchildren to play that piece at my funeral.  I already picked out a vocal piece, An Anthem to my King.

2 miles warm up from 6-7 mph.   6 intervals of 0.5 mi @ 7:30 pace with 0.25 mi @ 9:05 pace in between.  2.75 miles cool down from 8-6 mph.

9 miles in 1:19:05.  AP:  8:47

I am glad you stayed indoors, the air is wicked.

I am glued to the TV, it is all so inspiring!

Hey girl, lets not be planning your funeral yet! You have Boston to conquer!

Have a wonderful day INDOORS!!! I hope these next 12 weeks go as planned for you! Good Luck girl!

I thought I was the only one who had the musical #'s arranged for my funeral :)

Nice runs. You are on fire!!!

Leslie,

Isn't that luncheon something else? I visited that Rotunda 4 years ago. We had luncheon in the Cathedral and dinner inside the Capital Bldg. with Senator Hatch. I LOVE D.C. I'd go there in a heart beat.

Marion,

One can never be too prepared ;) I want music, lots of them in my funeral, no biographical stuff or tribute of any kind; just celebrate my departure with food, friends and music.

I watched while I biked. I was surprised at how often he referenced God. Usually politicians shy away from that, but not him! I thought that was cool. It is time to get a little of God back into our country! It is how this country was founded, "One nation, under God..."

Great workout!

Kelli, AMEN!!!

Smoothie Q!!

What a great workout ... What an AWESOME day. The kids and I were glued to the television. I couldn't help but get emotional. Then my sweet Oliver asked why I had tears in my eyes. Then the flood gates opened as I responded, "Oliver, this is the first man to become President of the United States that has beautiful skin just like yours." A huge smile was drawn across his face ... it lit up the whole room. Livvy and the other children were also very excited. WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY. (fyi, Lowell was there)

I love you Smooth!!

Boy Smooth, you are right back into your Boston training. No race is going to slow you down.

From Kathie on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 14:54:39

I can't believe the miles you are putting in. You are right back to your routine as if there was no race at all. Good for you!

Teena,

I can just see Oliver's huge grin. It lights up my heart. I adore your cute little family. What's Lowell doing down here in Utah? I really need to drop him a line. LOVE YOU Sweetpea!

Jeff,

Yep, 12 weeks to Boston. I better start looking for air tickets.

Kathie,

Painter's was a training run. So yep, back to the grind.
