AM:  Trail Run Fail this morning.  I went up to Government Canyon park and selected an old pair of A5s, thinking they'd make me nice and nimble.  I was picturing myself like a ninja, zipping around the canyon.  But the trails were a lot more rocky and technical than I was expecting.  Somehow my shoes didn't make it:

Must have been all the weird landings, direction changes, etc, with an upper that was already wearing out.  I guess it's a lesson learned.  R.I.P.  I suffered through a big loop, about 9 miles with my foot half hanging out for a lot of it, before I made it back to my car and decided it wasn't fun anymore.  Got in some good, hard running though.  Guess I should've known not to use a beat-up pair of racing flats on mostly rocks and boulders.

When I got home I changed shoes and took the dog out for his 4 miles.  Ran him a little harder than usual.  He was lagging behind a bit today.

Hey Joe,

I have a question for you. With me being about 20 lbs heavier than you, would you steer me away from the Fastwitch for Boston? It would be them or the Kinvara. I do like the lightness and the road feel in the Fastwitch but the longest I've gone in them is 10 miles.

Can you do a LR in the FT next weekend? It would still be 2 weeks out so maybe a 17-18 miler, and see if that works out. They are both 4mm heel to toe drop, and have decent cushioning...seems like the FT would be fine if you are good in the kinvaras.

Maybe I could borrow those A5's you're not using anymore.

Ok, just overnighted them. Give them back when you're done though, they still have another thousand miles in em.

Noone gets there money's worth out of a pair of shoes like Joe. That's fantastic.

This entry made me smile. I almost laughed, but then I realized I would be laughing at you. And that's not nice.

This reminds me of last fall when I thought racing flats would be a great choice for a day of canyoneering / rappelling. Turns out the Type As are really suited best for racing :-)

Matt - they were so young...maybe some duct tape.

Burt - I could hear you laughing at me from here.

Jake - I think it's time you pulled out from your Saucony sponsorship and switch to a more versatile shoe. Maybe Reebok: https://pumpmylife.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/reebok-timeline-pump_history-pumpmylife-013.jpg

Allie - I was ok until you said that - now I'll cry myself to sleep.

Tom S - I deserve your laughter.

Jake - see, they work!

Were we just that dumb in the 90s?
