What you talking bout Willis?

From SlowJoe on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 07:24:20 from 12.182.148.249

Doesn't it feel like it's been dying over the past couple years? Seems like its heyday was 2010-2011.

From Derunzo on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 07:26:14 from 173.9.52.242

Maybe we need to spice it up with some serious cussing and yo mama jokes?

You can try, but no one would see them.

From SlowJoe on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 07:45:30 from 12.182.148.249

Oh wow, so now we're at ~half the page views of 2011. If FRB was a stock, it'd be time to sell....

From Derunzo on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 07:48:06 from 173.9.52.242

You were spot on.... the highpoint was in 2011. Yo mama would be bullsh#t.

From Jake K on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 11:45:21 from 70.194.165.99

If FRB was stock, you would have wanted to cash out 3-4 years ago and then put it all in Gilead.

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 11:57:38 from 192.168.1.1

Sorry, guys - I have not been as involved in keeping the site going as I used to. When I had only 5-6 kids I could do it better, but with 9 my time seems to be going into training/teaching them, so hardly anything is left for the blog, just make sure the site is up and post my workouts.

From Jake K on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 12:03:27 from 70.194.165.99

Keeping the site up and running for the sake of continuity is much appreciated, Sasha.

From SlowJoe on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 12:06:42 from 12.182.148.249

I'm not sure that you being less involved is the culprit. I think FRB was one of the first of its kind and now there are just more places to post and talk about your runs (Strava, Facebook, whatever). But I'm also thankful you keep it up because it has been part of my running routine now for 99% of my running life!

From SlowJoe on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 12:08:11 from 12.182.148.249

Jake - would you believe I sold my GILD shares for $104 a couple months ago? Stupid stupid stupid...

From Derunzo on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 14:36:57 from 73.218.33.75

That's what yo mama said!

All kidding aside, I love this blog. Being able to post your runs with as little or much description as you feel is great. I also have to admit that I'm a big fan of all the silly banter.

From Tom K on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 20:26:05 from 174.58.54.215

I blame I Just Run. That dude was the social butterfly of the east coast runners. Now that he's not commenting on everyone's blog everyday, something's missing. I know it's crazy to say that absent one or two commenters, the place feels empty. That's just how I see it.

Sasha, you don't need to apologize to anybody. I've learned a lot, and had good time doing it on this site. I'm a better runner because of this place.

Derunzo, yo mama likes banter.

From Jon on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 20:54:11 from 107.203.52.135

I think it peaked in 2008. Not cause that was the actual peak, but that was the start of the plateau.

What was the little spike in the end of 2011? SGM?

Yeah, Strava, etc are cutting in. I don't use any- I just hope Sasha keeps it going. Or gives us big warning before stopping it, as I want to download my data.

You ever looked how many inactive users there are? Pretty shocking. For example, 412 blogs updated within 6 months, 3325 inactive. Poor percentage. 2/3 haven't updated in 3 yrs.

From Jason D on Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 21:58:07 from 68.80.27.222

#FRB4LYFE

I use Strava, which I like but where my training goes (and my heart and soul at times) is Fast Running Blog.

I do often wonder what happens to people. Sometimes when I am not doing anything in particular I find old blogs and wonder if the people are still running, where they are, and so on.

I do often reference people on the blog and I think my wife thinks I'm crazy since you could all be various codes generated by a grand machine and I could be on the Jason Show with people watching my every life detail . . .

As long as the site is up and running I am happy. It's continuance is what matters. Nothing fancy.

From SlowJoe on Sat, Jun 13, 2015 at 11:55:03 from 107.77.72.119

Tom - yes - I agree it's IJR's fault too! He and Derhammer are responsible for cutting the active Texas bloggers in half.

From Tom K on Sat, Jun 13, 2015 at 15:03:26 from 174.58.54.215

Nobody could keep up the pace that IJR did on welcoming new folks, etc. BTW, Who is the west coast version of IJR?

Jason, I'm with you on the referencing people from the blog thing. I have told people that flatlander ran in 1,000 degrees in Dubai. I am the only Floridian that knows what skinning is, because of Jake. I told people about Yasir running in a monsoon in Chicago. My kids ask me what is wrong with Allie's eyes. Anytime someone discusses a sports injury, chances are you are connected with someone here that has had it. Or countless other examples...

From SlowJoe on Sat, Jun 13, 2015 at 15:32:34 from 45.18.50.53

Good question, Tom - I think the first person to welcome me was Burt, who probably also welcomed the 3325 people Jon is talking about...ha! And now he's not on much either, but his participation correlates well with Jake's graph. So I blame Burt too.

From allie on Sat, Jun 13, 2015 at 17:38:14 from 24.99.46.55

if you go back to posts in 2009-2011, it's not uncommon to see 20-30 comments on a lot of entries. most of them are weird conversations involving burt. :) he definitely did a good job of making the rounds and welcoming new people.

i too miss the energy and interaction that FRB had in the past, as it was a very positive and motivating thing to be a part of. that said, i still find FRB to be very useful despite the decline in conversation/interaction. it's still a great place for running nerds to connect and interact, albeit a bit quieter. the biggest benefit now is all of the data that has been collected over the years -- so many fine details on all things running. i sift through past entries and race reports all the time. it's a treasure trove!

so thank you, sasha, for keeping it up despite a very busy life outside of this. it has had a positive impact on a ton of people.

tom - for the record, those are my real eyes. tell the kiddies.

From Jon on Sat, Jun 13, 2015 at 19:27:41 from 107.203.52.135

I remember welcoming every new member back in the 2009 era, then there became too many. I guess I could probably do it again now. But I am in it less (not at all) for the social and just for the record keeping now. And to read some interesting race reports from my friends.

From Jon on Sat, Jun 13, 2015 at 19:28:00 from 107.203.52.135

And to not feel totally isolated out here in South Carolina...

From SlowJoe on Sat, Jun 13, 2015 at 23:05:33 from 45.18.50.53

Hey look, a 20+ comment thread! Doesn't matter that half of them are mine.

I'll have to admit that I don't get around to other blogs like I used to. Maybe we're all getting older and losing free time too.

Allie is the glue holding us together. Is there anyone she doesn't know? I think she joined the blog when she was 6. Anyway, I like that there is a core, loyal FRB group. Even if it's only a few dozen people, I think we'll all be around awhile. To drive the point home, I just verified that Jon was my first comment on my first marathon that I ever ran.

The reason I even posted this entry was because the night before I happened to be reading some old entries from back in the day. I wasn't as interested in my entries/runs as I was in reading the comments, and so maybe it is the funny commentary that I miss. Good night runner nerds!

From flatlander on Sun, Jun 14, 2015 at 05:10:24 from 76.31.29.220

I'm late to this post, as usual, but this blog has made all the difference for me. It motivates me to see what good runners can do. And it keeps me accountable -- kind of odd, but many times in a marathon I have kept going because I didn't want to post a fail in front of all my cyber-friends. And the comments above are from many of the folks I read the most. Thanks all.

From Jake K on Sun, Jun 14, 2015 at 07:38:15 from 208.110.150.110

This thread can get to 30, which would be a 2015 season best!

Admittedly I used to dink around on here too much during work and whatnot... I've taken on a lot of responsibilities at work (good thing) and don't really have the time for that anymore, and my desire to get in front of a screen again once I get home is low. But I really like having a free text log (with picture capabilities!) that is accessible from anywhere (the primary advantage over a marble composition book). Before 2011 I don't have much recorded... I was good about keeping a log in high school. But 2002-2010 is a black hole in terms of how much I was running.

From Bam on Sun, Jun 14, 2015 at 09:42:33 from 89.126.28.24

You'd be surprised at the number of people that read this blog. A guy I run with was talking to me the other day about the time allie was living in a car and about Riley's aerobic builders and whether Jake is going to ski the OTQ time ;-)

From Tom K on Sun, Jun 14, 2015 at 10:55:11 from 174.58.54.215

Welcome to the blog, Bam.

From Jake K on Sun, Jun 14, 2015 at 21:32:32 from 98.202.128.218

If it snowed in St George, I could definitely ski the OTQ time there.

I've heard Ireland really has an interest in following blogs of people who live in their cars :-)
