AM:  30F.  11 mi total.  I went to the track this morning for a 2 x 5000m @ HMP, 1 lap active recovery.  Of all the HMP workouts I've done, this has proven to be the best predictor workout for me.  Right before my PR about a year ago in Houston, I ran a both repeats in 19:44.

Today I ran a 19:40 (6:21, 6:17, 6:15, 47s), 19:28 (6:17, 6:18, 6:09, 44s).

It's not quite an apples-to-apples comparison, as last year I was running higher mileage, but I think a PR in Houston this year is a very reasonable/attainable goal.

PM: 4 easy, 8:20s...I actually did a double!  Slowly easing them in now.

That second one has a really strong finish. Great work, Joe!

Sweet. Very sweet in-deed-ee, young Jojo. Great to see the improvements...

I think you'll get a PR too, very nice pair of 5Ks this morning.

wow, great workout!

Very nice, Joe. Will you repeat this or do you have something else planned for when it gets closer?

I think despite mileage differences the workout is an indicator as you say. You still have to be fit enough to run the workout. I've been humbled more than once in a race by people runner ~1/2 the mileage I did.

Thanks all.

Jason - I will probably change it up for the next HM workout...time to bring back the wave run! On the low mileage thing I really just meant that my legs were a little worn down last time I did this, whereas they are almost always fresh these days on the low mileage. You're right though, still have to be fit enough to do it...overall a really good sign.

Looking good Joe. Looking like a PR on deck. It's been good to see you nailing your workouts again. Great workout!

Great workout Joe. Lower mileage or not, you can't fake your way through these kinds of sessions. 2 x 5K is really challenging... well done.
