34F.  6:53 AP.  Ended up doing 8 @ MP today.  It went ok, I guess.  A "meh" workout if ever there was one.  I think I let my imagination get the best of me yesterday; I pictured myself effortlessly gliding along at 6:30 pace, which didn't happen.  Achilles felt pretty good in the racing flats today though, so I think I dodged that bullet.

8 MP @ 6:34 AP - (6:31, 6:35, 6:29, 6:38, 6:37, 6:34, 6:44 [heartbreak], 6:25).

Felt harder than MP...I don't know, I haven't been quite able to recapture that feeling of my first 2 long MP runs of the cycle that were quicker AND with less effort.  I do realize this is still kind of end-of-cycle, and my legs will have more pop in 10 days.

If anything, maybe this was a good slap on the wrist that will keep me from going out like a maniac in the first half of the race.  I'm thinking 1:27:00 for the first half right now, since it's easier than the 2nd half.  That way, if I have a great day, sub-2:55 is definitely in play.  If it's not my day, and I have to limp in with a 1:30-31, it's still a sub-3 and a PR.

Now I can focus on what really matters - obsessing over all the weather websites for the next 10 days.

yes, add in a taper and race day hype, and MP will feel easy again. it will probably feel TOO easy in the first half, but stick with your plan. save the maniac running for the finish line.

hoping for a perfect weather forecast...

From Matt Schreiber on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 09:06:07 from 66.17.107.219

Even though the workout might not have been what you were hoping for, still a great run. Sounds like you have a great plan, and hey, with Meb out now, you never know!....

From Tom K on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 09:25:20 from 71.228.90.171

I think this run is much better than meh.

Hey, what would be your ideal weather conditions? I seem to have weather controlling powers, and would like to help.

Also, is Santa Cow's fate in the balance again?

"Limp in with a 1:30-31"? Hilarious! I need to limp like that.

From Bam on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 09:36:22 from 89.126.28.24

Like the others have said, I think your plan is on the button. If you get to half way in 1:27 feeling easy, then the second half shouldn't trouble you.

From SlowJoe on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 09:39:03 from 155.219.241.10

allie - can you go to Boston and remind me every mile or so to stick with the plan?

Matt - if I show up at the elite start and act like I belong there, do you think they'll let me in?

Tom - I'll take 40 degrees, cloudy, wind WSW @ 30 mph. Thanks, 'preciate it.

Yeah Santa Cow is going away with any sub-3 result. Otherwise....

From SlowJoe on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 09:41:23 from 155.219.241.10

Bam - sounds good...it seems like an easy stretch (the first half) looking at the charts, but I guess I'll have to wait to find out.

From Jake K on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 10:03:51 from 155.100.226.191

Its rare that you do the last harder workout and think "it would be so easy to just stretch this out to 26 right now". Actually not just rare... it doesn't happen. And if it does, you've hit your peak too early.

You're fine - trust in the whole cycle. Look at the accumulation of what you've done. Its impressive, and its gotten you to a point where if you go out and run smart, you'll have a great performance.

And the little running devil now sits on your shoulder wispering sour nothings in your ear :-(

Believe!!!!

YOU'RE GOING TO KILL THIS RACE...!!!

From SlowJoe on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 12:33:04 from 155.219.241.10

Jake - I think I've peaked too early in the past (couple marathons ago), so at least I know that isn't the case this time. Thanks for the advice.

IJR - yeah, I'm still pretty positive/pumped. Just ready to get out there and run it now...I can forget about training and daydream a little!

From I Just Run on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 16:17:39 from 67.79.11.242

Can I have your Boston bib and info so I can follow you....please?

From Jason D on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 17:43:28 from 24.1.80.94

Ditto, ditto, ditto. That the achilles seems ready to go is most important. Now don't let the changes in weather forecast upset a perfectly good resting heart rate!

From JG on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 19:08:45 from 174.49.78.66

Glad Achilles is feeling better ... I like your plan ... With adrenaline & being surrounded by others running the same pace, I think you will be coasting along. Just keep reminding yourself that in the later miles you will be dropping lots of those around you ... That is when you want your adrenaline kicking in, not too much in the early miles. The beauty of Boston is you will always have runners to set your eyes on pick off! I am excited for you ... I think you will crush the last 5 miles!

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Apr 05, 2013 at 19:08:48 from 68.102.189.33

Wow! still impressive, I'm just dreaming that is my hmp next week! I agree that now that you slide into the 10 days and taper, mp will be a piece of cake. The first half should feel easy!!

Ha ha... I thought you already considered yourself a Sub-3 Hour guy and had disowned me :-)

From SlowJoe on Sun, Apr 07, 2013 at 19:51:10 from 96.61.24.215

I wouldn't sever any ties if I got sub-3. Not unless I ran like a 2:55.

But yeah, I have definitely been a little weak in my FRB commenting/responding lately.
