32F.  7:12 AP.  Today was my fast-finish long run.

First 17 easy to moderate, averaged 7:25/mile.

Last 5 @ 6:27 AP.  6:33, 6:35, 6:28, 6:24, 6:15.

My local Heartbreak Hill was in miles 19-20 (tempo miles 2 and 3) and I put forth my biggest effort going up the long hill today, keeping it around 6:30.  I think hills are a weakness for me, and hills at mile 20 are a magnified weakness, so I took advantage of fresh legs (from the recovery week) and hit all the uphills in the tempo portion pretty hard today.

Nice running Joe. Great idea to hit the hills in the tempo portion. Intelligent training.

Yes, very smart. Its too easy to get locked into the mode of trying to run fast workouts and ignoring the obvious challenge of the Boston course, which presents so very unique challenges... you've gotta be able to hit the hills hard when you're already got a lot of miles under your legs. Train yourself to do that, and you'll tear that course to shreds.

I'm convinced this is darn close to MP if it isn't, Joe, especially given the last two miles of tempo were fast. . . And it was on top of a 17 mile warmup. Crazy gains this buildup. The old aerobic engine is nicely stoked. I look forward to Boston. Not that I will be there, but since I started running Marathon Monday is like a holiday. Well, I guess it is.

Very nice run today. Awesome last 5 miles, especially with the hill. Impressive tempo!

Bam - thanks

Jake - Got a good month to get there; I would be the "2:59 guy" right now if the hills in the last few miles of Tulsa hadn't almost reduced me to walking...

Jason - thanks, yeah the aerobic system has definitely been the show pony lately. I'm keeping sub-2:50 in my cross-check, just in case, although 26 miles @ 6:29 is still a bit daunting at this point.

Matt - thanks!

JG - you know me, easy does it...

April - thanks
