Hiked/ran/scrambled to the summit of Mt. Olympus. Left the trailhead at 9:00 PM and reached the summit just after 11:00. We had a nice break on top and watched the city lights, although it was much cooler up there with a slight breeze. The hike down was really cool with several interesting bugs and critters on the trail, including a small tarantula. We got back to the trailhead at 1:30 and I was home and in bed by 2:30 AM. It was a great night with over 4,000 feet of elevation gain.

"We had a nice break on top and watched the city lights,"

Sounds like a date. Wish I could have gone, but I had the kidlets last night while Em hung out with her best friend. She needed a night away. Let's plan the Brighton Ridge Run for the week after the 4th.

Well, on our way back down when we were almost to the trailhead we passed two guys going up to "watch the sunrise from the top" as they said. I think that was a date :)

Isn't that pretty dangerous hiking in the middle of the night?!

It wasn't dangerous at all. We had headlamps and I have been on top about 20 times, so I know the trail well. It is actually one of my favorite ways to do this hike because you avoid the heat and sun that are common this time of year on the Olympus trail.
