I met MatthewVH and Jun at the Wire trailhead this morning at 5:50. It was a balmy 6 outside. I had to take care of some bathroom bidness while waiting for Matt and I have to say that was the coldest bathroom break of my life. It was nice of Jun to flash and keep his headlights on me though.

When we finally hit the trail there was a slight wind that picked up as we made our way up the mountain and it was just plain cold. I usually heat up within a few minutes, but today it took much longer. My hands and face were numb. Jun and I quickly pulled away from Matt and we wouldn't see him again until the summit. We only ran a little and mostly hiked up the steep slope.

Jun and I had a great time talking and we didn't push too hard, but just had an enjoyable hike up. The views of the city were much different than a few days ago with the disgusting air and it just felt so good to be out and on the trails early in the morning. There was a nice path in the snow until we reached the upper portion of the mountain, and from there we were breaking new trail, although it wasn't that deep, so it wasn't too bad.

Jun and I reached the top in 56:18 and after a few pics we decided to wait for Matt. Surprisingly there wasn't much wind, and that was a good thing because it would not have been bearable if there had been any. After about 10 minutes Matt showed up and then we quickly headed down.

The best part of the day was a herd of Elk that ran just below us as we left the summit. They are big and powerful animals and it was fun watching them move so fast. Awesome! The run down was fun, but I stopped to mess with my ipod and my hands were instantly cold again. When I got back to the cars Jun was already gone and I waited a few minutes for Matt. Once again a really fun morning on Wire. 2300 vert. Total time 1:24

I've been called big and powerful on more than one occasion. Probably has something to do with my beard.

Good times this morning. Look forward to Thurs.

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 12:22:27 from 66.239.250.209

That beard is super sexy right now. I enjoyed looking at it all the way up. I was actually wishing I had it when the wind was blowing.

From MatthewVH on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 13:22:30 from 69.27.9.106

Alright, one day soon I will keep up with you guys. But that mile one poop always slows me down. Those two big donuts I consumed for dinner last light didn't help either.

From RAD on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 15:05:12 from 67.172.229.125

Love the 'boys club' runs! I need to figure out how to cope with boys...I've got 3 i hope to run with someday!

From Lily on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 15:31:28 from 67.199.181.73

ha I 2nd RAD's comment. Somebody teach me how to cope with my 3 boys. I don't always get em'

Scott I think your new nickname should 'wire'

From Oreo on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 15:57:49 from 206.81.136.61

Did you find gdoc lost and afraid up there?.. Good push.

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 18:44:54 from 71.219.84.215

COLD!

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 23:57:35 from 75.162.89.170

Matt- Remember about a year ago when you used to kick my butt up a mountain? You have it in ya.

Rad and Lily- Men are pretty easy to figure out really. We have very simple needs. Lily you can call me Wire anytime.

Oreo- You and gdoc need to come join us soon. Let me know.

Kelli- Yeah, it was COLD, but only for a few minutes and then it wasn't bad at all.

From Bryce on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 00:01:03 from 67.186.213.216

Wow, getting up and out that early....in the cold! Nice job getting after it!

From Karen on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 11:32:14 from 69.171.160.198

WOW! I am feeling really lazy right now as I read this sitting in front of my computer...sigh...Good Game!

From RAD on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 15:35:30 from 67.172.229.125

Simple needs, huh? So then how do you explain the fact that my 3 year old and 6 year old had this conversation in the bathroom yesterday (I wasn't watching, just overheard from the other room!):

3yo: Hey, come here...let's see who is bigger

6yo: okay

(comes over)

3yo: no, see whoSE is bigger.

6yo: oh, okay

*shuffling and scuffling*

3yo: yup, you're bigger.

Then they flushed and ran off to play.

When do these things enter boys' heads? I mean really?!? THREE?!? I didn't know that ever really happened, I guess I just thought it was all a big 'guessing' game. Now I know...

At least it was between brothers! Boys! you guys really are strange creatures.

From Lily on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 16:52:47 from 67.199.181.73

haha Rad!

Hey Wire, what's your workout plan today?

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 18:50:38 from 66.239.250.209

Thanks Bryce and Karen. Karen, no need to feel lazy. I read your blog and you're pretty hardcore. :)

Rad- Ha! I'll give you my thoughts on boys when I have more time.

Lily- We are climbinbg Mt. wire again tomorrow. :) Also FYI Mt. Wire is also called Big Beacon. You can also call me that.

From PRE on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 21:15:28 from 99.50.214.225

I have to say you get to do some serious vertical. I am wanting to do more vertical and East Rock has only 170 Feet (to 245 - I will get a more accurate read) elevation for one mile. Your 2300 feet for 4 miles is excellent.

From RAD on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 21:55:17 from 67.172.229.125

Big Beacon?!? hmmm, uh huh....yeah. Like I said: still can't figure out this boy thing!!!

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Jan 13, 2011 at 11:05:44 from 66.239.250.209

PRE- Take a trip out here to Utah and we will get you some serious vert. I love living here because the mountain trails are minutes from anywhere.

Rad- Last night while I was getting my 5 year old son dressed he jumped into my lap and tooted. He then jumped off and thought it was the funniest thing ever. Ha. I immediately thought about you. Yeah, boys love body functions. My girls would NEVER do that. His favorite thing to do is chase them around baked while they scream. Good times.
