I had a really fun morning climbing/running Mt. Wire with Matt V. The weather forecast was calling for wind, so we both started out with more clothes than we needed. I wore a wind stopper hat, vest and gloves, and probably didn't need them. There was a guy that started about 5 minutes before us, and that is the first person I have seen this year climbing the peak not in our group.

Matt said he wasn't feeling great, so we took it slow. We had a fast hike, but no running on the lower portion. We stopped at .8 for Matt's 'one mile break' and I watched the guy ahead of us as he climbed up the ridge. I had wanted to see if we could catch him, but with the break it wouldn't be possible, as he had a pretty good lead on us.

The rest of the hike was really fun. The wind never really picked up until we were higher on the mountain. It was quite warm and I felt great the whole way. The trail was dry for all but the final push, where there was actually quite a bit of ice on the trail. We passed the guy coming down just below the towers and then we hit the summit in 56:00. It was much colder on top and the wind picked up, so we didn't stay too long.

We ran the whole way down, but had to take care going down the icy section. I slipped once and almost fell on my butt (thought about you Kelli), but I was able to catch myself. We took the long way down and had a really fun run, although it was slower than normal. Total time 1:30.

2200 ft vert.

How many times up Wire does that make for you this year?

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 13:01:52 from 66.239.250.209

That is number 8 for the year. I will probably end up with over 50. I'm not so sure that is a good thing. Ha.

From Dorsimus on Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 13:09:15 from 66.239.250.209

Geez at that point I think you'll have to try it blindfolded.

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 13:47:05 from 66.239.250.209

Or in a Speedo. Matt and I talked about doing a 24 hours on Wire this morning. You guys in?

From jun on Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 13:53:24 from 66.239.250.209

NO, why would I want to spend 24 hours on that mountain? I can think of many others I'd rather spend 24 hours running on.

Why don't we spend 24 hours on Timp? Or King's? Or the Pfeif? I mean, really, it's the same amount of vert if what you're talking about is a timed event.

If that photo is to make me laugh, mission accomplished.

From RAD on Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 15:10:49 from 67.172.229.125

you are SO lucky you didn't have wind! Down here in the S end of the valley it was hurricane season. Nice work on the peak - another one in the bag!

oohhhh...24 hrs on Timp would be AWESOME! I'd attempt to join you on your last one, then I might be able to keep up if you guys are tired and slow :)

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 17:40:42 from 66.239.250.209

Timp or the Pfeiff sound good. I think I'll already be doing a 24 hour on Kings. ha.

Rad- The wind is usually really bad up there, so I think we lucked out. Yeah, you should join us. You would keep up no worries at all.

matt striking the pose! And Scott fending off evil doers ninja style. What a morning!

From Lily on Wed, Feb 16, 2011 at 11:27:07 from 67.199.181.73

hmm, Scott you look like your doing one of those dirty dance club type moves.

Somebody needs to tell me why Wire so cool as to climb it 3 times a week. Are the rest of us really missing that much?

From jun on Wed, Feb 16, 2011 at 11:33:06 from 66.239.250.209

No Lily, Wire isn't that cool. It's convenient, which is what makes it so appealing. It's a great way to get a solid amount of vert in with limited amount of time.

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Feb 16, 2011 at 12:32:29 from 66.239.250.209

Yep, Jun is correct. The views are actually really good up there, but as far as mountains and peaks go it isn't anything speeecial. However, it is the most convenient way to get in some good vert near my office.
