3 easy miles on the TM. My calves are SORE! I'm going to get back into the mountains later in the week for sure. I am getting soft. At least my knee is feeling a lot better. It is not sore at all.

Scott, do you have a dog you hike/run with in the mountains? I don't want you to be eaten by a mountain lion. I just cut a clients hair who is a forest ranger and he said as long as I have my dog with me I should be fine, he would scare off large animals, I have seen Odee scare off moose several times. I hike alone alot, I am not going with out my dog for sure.

Leslie, I do have a dog, but she is still a puppy and very hard to run with. We have been working with her, and she is getting better, but it is so hard to run with her. I did take her hiking a few months ago and she didn't do very well, but I think most of that was because of the heat. I need to get her out again and see how she does with the cooler weather.
As for cougars: I did have an encounter with one on top of Draper Ridge about 10 years ago. It was hiking at night with a friend and the cougar yelled, and then started running right at us. We both turned in the direction and I think our headlamps scared it because it let out another yell and then ran right by us. SCARY! I don't like hiking at night or alone.
I have run across their tracks quite a few times. Last year my friend and I were climbing a very steep snow chute on North Timpanogos and on the steepest part of the slope there were cat tracks going from one side to the other. I'm not sure if it was from a small cougar or a big bobcat, but they are out there for sure. :-)

Yeah, it is always best to be with someone in the moutnains. I do need to get back out and get some elevation because this month off has really made me soft.
