Triathlons are my New sport and I LOVE IT

Recent last few years  as I havent done much since I was 16/17yrs, on and off injuries, going out with Friends started. Operations on injuries- compartment syndrome front of the shin had small operation to release the pressure on the fascia.

Oct 2007.  Did the great north run.  ( I was in the elite ladies race, against Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe, Im sure u Americans will recall that race).

I was just in on my previous times from the Bath Half Marathon. I ran it as best as I could off my training & circumstances...

Decided to do my 1st Marathon with London looming in the following April I was in the ladies Elite race again.  So the training was on.  I realise now I didnt give my body enough time to recover as it did break down in the last 5 weeks of my training. Injury bound, with calf and hamstring problems I raced!

London Marathon, April 08 (Injury calf issues) 1st marathon  3hrs.12mins .30 secs

Dublin Marathon  Oct 08  3hrs.01mins.13  undulating and 1 toilet stuck/stop (LOL)

Bath Half 2007    1.26.35 hrs

Wilmslow half marathon english champs    1.25.39

18th lady  (With piriformis injury ).

Liverpool 10k 2008 Oct 37.42mins midst marathon training

Wirral 5k 2009 17.41mins off the back off marathon week

Track 3000ms 10.45mins  hmmm I ran this to get points for my club so I just did tactical and ran on 1st lady shoulder and sprinted at the end !

As a youngster

County Champion for Xcountry and

High Jump

and 1500ms track.

pbs aged 13 yrs old

800ms 2mins 16secs

1500ms 4mins 48 secs

high jump 1metre 53  (cant do this now) and I never trained for it as a kid, just competed alot for points for my club, usually spend 2 hours highjumping, and skip off to do an 800 or 1500ms race then go back to high jump, Wish I took the running more seriously!

Run on more than several occasions for my County against Ireland county of Dublin.

Top 50 finnisher at 14yrs of age in english nationals Xcountry.

30 mins spin in the gym hard hills and hard fast speed drills my legs were wobbly and straight onto the mill for a run

brick

When you stop biking and start running the legs feel “strange” and heavy (this is why they call these workouts bricks!) and the heart rate goes up, as our body tries to switch the blood from flowing into the muscles used for biking to those used for running. This feeling is more pronounced at the start of the run and usually the legs get better as time passes - although probably never as fresh as those you have when you run without biking before it (I wonder why?! ).

ok i hit the mill my trainer was in charge of the buttons on the mill, basically made me feel like hell increasing the incline then after about 6% incline each increment was 1 min at that incline!!

then 2 mins rest then

increments of speed to 16kmph /10mph again at 1 min increments then back down again 1 min increments. 2 mins rest

then 1 min increments of alternating the speed and inlcine till i scream wt? at my trainer and nearly fall off the mill.  it was hard really hard my legs were heavy and horrid especially after the bike its horrible ugly urghhhh!!!!  5.5km done quit with 3 mins to go next week I WILL DO IT THE WHOLE 30 MINS IF IT KILLS ME AND SCREAMING BLUE MURDER HA HA

ok some triathlon jargon explained-

BILATERAL BREATHING – breathing to both sides during front crawl. A skill required especially when the waves are coming from one side to avoid swallowing water.  i can do this so im ok

BONK – it’s the feeling when an athlete runs out of energy, like hitting the wall in the marathon. Light headed very low blood energy available. In many circumstances very difficult to carry on or a drastic reduction in speed.

we all know this dont we as we are runners we bonk all the time lol

BRICK SESSION – This is combing 2 sports together. It is usually a bike to run or swim to bike for Triathlon or a run to bike for duathlon. A multiple Brick session can be a Bike then run followed shortly after by another bike then run. High intensity keeps good form.

BURN – the mark left by a wet suit when it rubs

you all thought running chaffing was bad ouch ouch ouch

and running in cycle shorts its not nice no way its horrid, but then cycling allot and getting a dead area were you are seated NASTY

DEAD LEG SYNDROME – experienced when you have tried to hard on the bike and try and run after.  yes it hurts

DECA IRONMAN – 10 times the ironman distance. The athlete covers 24 miles cycles 1112 miles then cover 262 mile on foot taking 8 hours with 1-2 hours sleep each day   omg not possible

GRANNY RING – also known as the little front ring on a bike.  ha h ah a

HAMMER – describes hammering the bike or flying along. Just like nailing the bike. Fast and almost effortless.

ICE CREAM HEAD – if you have ever had cold ice cream and it’s made your head cold this is the same that you can experience when your head goes into the water.

M-DOT – The official name for the Ironman logo. Ironman finishers will often have the M Dot tattoo put on their lower leg. i want one of these lol

SPLASH MASH DASH – another description for triathlon.

SPLITS – The different parts of your Triathlon, the Swim, The time it takes to exit the swim get to your bike exit transition, the time it takes to cycle the bike leg, the time it takes to enter transition rack your bike and exit again, the time it takes to complete the run section. Your total race divided into split times.

whirlies --- my own description of getting out the water really quick to run to the bike you go all faint and funny light headed ha ha ....... like the room is spinning when ya drunk ha hah a

brick = is a block of ceramic material used in masonry construction, usually laid using various kinds of mortar.

also known as     Th is a bike-then-run workout. It is named thusly because that's what your legs feel like when you run after you bike. Triathletes love bricks, apparently

is is combing 2 sports together. It is usually a bike to run or swim to bike for Triathlon or a run to bike for duathlon. A multiple Brick session can be a Bike then run followed shortly after by another bike then run. High intensity keeps good form.
