Triathlons are my New sport and I LOVE IT

Recent last few years  as I havent done much since I was 16/17yrs, on and off injuries, going out with Friends started. Operations on injuries- compartment syndrome front of the shin had small operation to release the pressure on the fascia.

Oct 2007.  Did the great north run.  ( I was in the elite ladies race, against Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe, Im sure u Americans will recall that race).

I was just in on my previous times from the Bath Half Marathon. I ran it as best as I could off my training & circumstances...

Decided to do my 1st Marathon with London looming in the following April I was in the ladies Elite race again.  So the training was on.  I realise now I didnt give my body enough time to recover as it did break down in the last 5 weeks of my training. Injury bound, with calf and hamstring problems I raced!

London Marathon, April 08 (Injury calf issues) 1st marathon  3hrs.12mins .30 secs

Dublin Marathon  Oct 08  3hrs.01mins.13  undulating and 1 toilet stuck/stop (LOL)

Bath Half 2007    1.26.35 hrs

Wilmslow half marathon english champs    1.25.39

18th lady  (With piriformis injury ).

Liverpool 10k 2008 Oct 37.42mins midst marathon training

Wirral 5k 2009 17.41mins off the back off marathon week

Track 3000ms 10.45mins  hmmm I ran this to get points for my club so I just did tactical and ran on 1st lady shoulder and sprinted at the end !

As a youngster

County Champion for Xcountry and

High Jump

and 1500ms track.

pbs aged 13 yrs old

800ms 2mins 16secs

1500ms 4mins 48 secs

high jump 1metre 53  (cant do this now) and I never trained for it as a kid, just competed alot for points for my club, usually spend 2 hours highjumping, and skip off to do an 800 or 1500ms race then go back to high jump, Wish I took the running more seriously!

Run on more than several occasions for my County against Ireland county of Dublin.

Top 50 finnisher at 14yrs of age in english nationals Xcountry.

10 mins xtrainer warm up level 6

Okay 8 miles of sandy dunes and trails..... and about the last 1.5miles on road were I could pick the pace upto 7.15 pace, otherwise mostly 8-9.00min pace, over sand dunes.

 xtrainer level 6 warm down.

stretch and foam roller.  My legs are very achey after yesterdays run so I may get a hot bath and stretch again, as tomorrow should be session day, fingers crossed it is !

Chris it isnt a diet its a way of living lol ha ha ha

Vinh I have to go check out your blog now, and yeah you did great in the half when is your next race ?

From vinh on Mon, Jan 18, 2010 at 18:45:35 from 71.68.254.197

Sam, my next race is the Myrtle Beach Marathon on Feb 13th. Just gonna get in some good runs till then. Be sure to give me any advice. I have about 3 1/2 weeks left.

From Lyman on Mon, Jan 18, 2010 at 20:13:23 from 75.169.101.104

I felt skinny. Overated...it feels just like hungry does. And let me tell you, I've one heck of a long list of things that feels better than hungry and the taste of a good chocolate is right on top of that list.

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 06:07:31 from 78.32.130.9

Lyman - you felt skinny, not at the moment then or do you ? sorry too many questions eh! Yeah I have a long list of foods that taste nicer than skinny but hey whats better blubber bouncing around when running or not!

I dont mind the feeling hungry at all, but I do like the taste of food especially chocolate now thats a women thing I am sure he he :)

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 06:08:31 from 78.32.130.9

Vinh - whats your target pace is it 7.20mins ??

3 weeks, should be starting a small taper, keep the sessions up, but taper your long run, I am not sure how long your runs have got to have you reached 20 milers yet?

From vinh on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 06:29:20 from 75.77.22.187

lol, no I was only wishing I could run at that pace for the marathon. I'm shooting for 8 min flat or maybe a lil bit under that. I know I should taper my longest run this week but I plan on running a 19 miler and a 21 miler within the next week and a half. 19 this saturday and 21 next thursday then no more long runs. I know I'm taking a chance but I think it'll help me and still give me enough time to taper.

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 07:25:23 from 78.32.130.9

Vinh- whats the longest you have done so far, I think maybe doing the 21 miler this weekend then the maybe 19 the following giving you more chance to recover as the long runs take more out of your legs than you realise and all those little muscle tears need to mend before the marathon !

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 07:28:36 from 78.32.130.9

Your Marathon pace Vinh- I just did a runner calculator and off your Half pr you have just done, you may be capable of 3hrs 22 mins which means 7.45 pace...... I would go out maybe at 8 min pace at first then try pick up from there but those 1st miles are crucial in keeping the pace down :-)

From vinh on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 07:29:43 from 75.77.22.187

Ok I could do that, just take it really slow? like 9 min pace? I did a 17 miler in December right before I got injured. It felt pretty easy, that's when I ran the first 10 @ 8:42 pace and the last 7 at marathon pace.

From vinh on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 07:39:22 from 75.77.22.187

Thanks Sam! I used a few calculators myself and saw that I could be capable of sub 3:30. I was thinking of running the first couple miles at 8:15-8:30 and then turning it up from there to about a 7:45-7:50.

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 07:52:44 from 78.32.130.9

Vinh- nice to know you have done some decent mileage, and that pace sounds good in Dec.....

Yeah all the calculators vary somewhat I think your capable of sub 3.30hrs and your plan sounds just right! I think Grete Waitz said once, if you feel great at mile 13 dont pick the pace up, even at mile 17 you still feel great your doing blooming good, then at mile 20 hmmmm still good and pick it up from there on :)

On another note I am quite please with stuffin Burts inbox as he stuffed mine the other day so Hiya Burt hope your okay and your inbox aint too stuffed.

stuffin is my wrong word spell for the day LOL
