Triathlons are my New sport and I LOVE IT

Recent last few years  as I havent done much since I was 16/17yrs, on and off injuries, going out with Friends started. Operations on injuries- compartment syndrome front of the shin had small operation to release the pressure on the fascia.

Oct 2007.  Did the great north run.  ( I was in the elite ladies race, against Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe, Im sure u Americans will recall that race).

I was just in on my previous times from the Bath Half Marathon. I ran it as best as I could off my training & circumstances...

Decided to do my 1st Marathon with London looming in the following April I was in the ladies Elite race again.  So the training was on.  I realise now I didnt give my body enough time to recover as it did break down in the last 5 weeks of my training. Injury bound, with calf and hamstring problems I raced!

London Marathon, April 08 (Injury calf issues) 1st marathon  3hrs.12mins .30 secs

Dublin Marathon  Oct 08  3hrs.01mins.13  undulating and 1 toilet stuck/stop (LOL)

Bath Half 2007    1.26.35 hrs

Wilmslow half marathon english champs    1.25.39

18th lady  (With piriformis injury ).

Liverpool 10k 2008 Oct 37.42mins midst marathon training

Wirral 5k 2009 17.41mins off the back off marathon week

Track 3000ms 10.45mins  hmmm I ran this to get points for my club so I just did tactical and ran on 1st lady shoulder and sprinted at the end !

As a youngster

County Champion for Xcountry and

High Jump

and 1500ms track.

pbs aged 13 yrs old

800ms 2mins 16secs

1500ms 4mins 48 secs

high jump 1metre 53  (cant do this now) and I never trained for it as a kid, just competed alot for points for my club, usually spend 2 hours highjumping, and skip off to do an 800 or 1500ms race then go back to high jump, Wish I took the running more seriously!

Run on more than several occasions for my County against Ireland county of Dublin.

Top 50 finnisher at 14yrs of age in english nationals Xcountry.

Okay the idea was, half marathon pace mile, then a 10k pace mile, then repeat, with 3 mins recovery inbetween........

It was really windy, I thought if I run my mile reps along the tempo route I do which is basically down a by-pass for ease of flat cycle path with not too many junctions.... You would think the by-pass would be straight but it isnt and it was a combination of cross head winds and head winds of 35kmh!

The mile reps hurts, I did try to fuel for this, but for some reason I had an upset tummy today so  I am sure whatever I put in did not stay in the muscles if you get my meaning urghhhh!  I wasnt ill my temp wasnt up and my h/r wasnt up just my typical stomach strikes once again on the wrong day :(

Anyway the tummy had settled down for the run at least.

5 mins xtrainer level 5

the weather looked gloomy, dark fine rain and the wind:(

so I head off for a

2.5 mile warm up 8 min pace, this was a cross wind, I thought it was in front of me, but when I turned round to go the other way to start the miles reps I realised now way the wind was strong.

.  1st mile -   6.20 mins.... this was supposed to be 6.30 pace and into the cross head wind, I had put too much of an effort in this mile oops

3 min recovery jog

0.25 miles.

.  2nd mile    6.34 mins this was supposed to be 6.10 pace huh! head wind of 35kmh I think I put the effort in for sure I was tired, my arms ached.

3 min recovery jog

0.25 miles

.  3rd mile    6.17 mins  Like I said before this is supposed to be a half marathon pace I was naughty as you can see, with a cross wind it felt so much easier I felt as though I put the same effort as the 1st mile though.

3 min recovery

0.25 miles

.  4th mile   6.12 mins  this is more like the pace I was after although it was a killer mile not really what I expected I thought my mile reps would be easier, although all in all the effort was there and I am sure it will pay off and strengthen me in the future.

6.6 miles warm down over sandy trails and and woodland paths.

after the last mile, I took a few mins recovery just stretching, I found it hard to get going again, I am sure I ran out of fuel around the middle of the 3rd mile, I felt rough but pushed through it and thought I doesnt matter what time I do as long as I get through all four reps. I was going to cut the warm down miles short but I thought I have to persevere even if I walk after each mile, I really boinked bad hit the wall, but I got through it after a couple of miles I was okay and well on my way.  I ran towards my sons School and met with him at the other end of the road, he helped me by cycling with me to the gym. Thanks Dylan and he gave me his drink too double thanks :-)

I am happy I got through this and with a good total mileage of 14.1 miles  2hrs 5 mins running :-D

I can vouch for that wind it was 'Horrible' glad I was just out on an eazy run:]

no wonder elite runners go off to warm weather traning camps [can I go to?]

Yeah don't worry about your times Sam, it's the effort that counts, and that wind has a way of sucking all your energy away don't it!!! oh and that by-pass has to be the very worst possible place to be when the wind blows it's wicked way=====

so at the end of a very long day you did 'Really' OK,Ok!!!

From ChrisM on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 05:56:49 from 130.88.123.4

You will find less wind problems if you don't eat lots of beans before sessions! LOL

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 06:27:17 from 78.32.130.9

From Barry on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 08:00:32 from 67.61.235.198

What a intense workout. I don't think i could have done that one. You are amazing. Also, have you tried to bring sum type of running gel to help you through those moments of no energy? I think that would help you out a lot. Something to think about.....

From Huans32 on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 08:50:16 from 138.64.8.51

I just hate the wind too. I can handle just about anything. But the wind just really sucks. Great run.

From Burt on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 11:03:38 from 206.19.214.144

Good one Chris.

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 12:15:17 from 90.195.99.79

Yes I though Burt would find that windy kind funny, your so funny both of you ha ha ha LOL

Barry Yeah, I have never done the gel thing on sessions, unless I am on the treadmill only I sweat allot on the mill and figure I have to replenish due to that, but good idea :)

Huans thanks yeah the wind sucks doesnt it :-D
