So region was today. I was nervous earlier this week but today I wasn't. I felt calm and relaxed. I hardly thought about the race on the bus ride out. We actually got to the course early so a lot of the team walked the course again. That was good because I forgot about all of the concrete on the back stretch and had previously planned to wear spikes. I wore flats instead. When it finally came time for the girls varsity race, I got excited. I was ready to race. When the gun went off, all of uintah went into an almost dead sprint. We for once didn't start in the back of the pack. We were all really close together. Jacia lead the pack for a while and then McKenna took the lead. After the race broke up, so did our pack, but we were still really close to one another. McKenna and I took turns leading. The course this year was extremely flat, which I didn't like as much. I still felt really good though. We were sustaining a good pace and I didn't feel like I was going to die off. At the last 800 meters, I took lead of the pack with McKenna close behind. I tried to catch two Spanish Fork girls but they were far enough to ahead that I couldn't. I finished the race in 20th. A Wasatch girl barely passed me at the end. Uintah ended up placing fifth overall. We missed qualifying for state by 18 points. We were all a little bummed about that. Later on though I found out that I, along with the two Spanish fork girls, qualified individually. I was really excited. I'm sad that my team can't race with me, but I'm excited to run at state. It's my first time. I hope to run a good time and maybe even place somewhat decent. I want to give my best effort for myself, the coaches, and my team. Without them, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am now. I'm excited to represent Uintah at state.
