Totally accidental LR today. My running mojo is gone. I could blame it on a lot of things like lack of sleep, major stress at work, and crappy eating but ultimately it's my feet and I'm just unwilling to accept that. Anyway the first 10 with Mack were great. I felt good and wanted 6 mp tempo miles after. Just wanted to ease into it and keep it a realistic mp effort. I've got lots of too fast miles under my belt but not enough mp. 6:59, 6:38, 6:32, 6:25, 6:25. Stopped and had a completely irrational breakdown. Feet were just not doing well and I think I was hitting a wall or something anyway. Pulled it together and ran back to my house (I think only 1 cow saw me cry).

As I was walking up my stairs to retire my running shoes and quit running forever I remembered I told my sis I'd run 5 mi with her to help her get ready for the 10k Mon. Crap she was waiting & ready to go. Changed shoes quick and we did 5 at a 9:18 pace. Very happy for her and the coolest part was watching her sprint the last .25 as I just barely hung on behind her. One little sip of Gatorade during this 2:46 slog fest...maybe that was part of the problem. I drank 60 ounces immediately and then drove .25 to 7-11 for a slurpee.

Cheer up Rachelle. :) Your feet thing will turn around. You always bounce back from these little things.

Maybe that cow was having a really bad day and you made her happier knowing she wasn't the only one.

And 6:25 MP miles?!? Nice work! :)

This has overuse written all over it. You are young so it wouldnt be as severe as where i am at right now. But watch t yourself. We think alike. I just wasnt 26 and masochistic. No fuel....sounds like me. Fooot pain...me. losing running funk...me. hmmm. If i were NOT me and was the smarter me i would follow this advice....massively easy runs the next two weeks with only ONE day with a LITTLE speed before uvm. Do not under estimate where u r at. A long break will get u there. Amber green barely ran the. 2 week before her first sub three. I m not trying to be debbie downer jist reality. In fact witb this time off i am feeling ready to go but i screwed up my foot so badly i cant. All other muscles finally want to go. Good luck tmr. Maybe i can come cheer u on. Take care friend.

Ouch, I have totally done the mid-tempo stop and cry. Its not a nice feeling, losing the mojo.

Dont mentally side-line yourself! You have so much fitness accumulated... People kept telling me (yourself included I think ;) to trust the taper and the cumulative gains you've made along the way. It will come together - you're going to crush it!!!

P.S. I have read in several books that MP miles are less physiologically beneficial than base aerobic miles and lactate threshold miles, and they are more about attuning your body and mind to the appropriate pace. Im sure lots of people would disagree, but I think if your body knows the pace (which it does at your level of experience and as evidenced by the 6 miles you just did) then it shouldnt be a big limiting factor in your race.

I'll just throw in two or three cents...

If I look at your training over the last 2 months blind to your feet issues, it's been really good! Maybe not exactly everything you wanted, but it's definitely been 90% or more of everything you need to run a good marathon. And 90% training can get you to 98% performance if you nail the stuff during the race like hydration, nutrition, and pacing (which you are really good at to start with).

Not a perfect analogy, but in the 5-6 weeks pre-PHX, I was battling the Achilles and never felt good... Workouts were OK in hindsight, but at the time I thought I was very under-prepared. In any case, once I committed to run the race two weeks out, I decided to throw all that aside and just be supremely confident in myself. I didn't run a 100% perfect performance, but I was able to still get close enough, despite a less than ideal buildup.

You can do the same, should you decide to run the marathon, which I'm guessing you will. You've run plenty of very good workouts and have PRd in the 1/2 this spring... and you have enough experience over this distance that you know how to race smart.

So, at this point, if you're gonna do this, realize that you are more fit than you think (the races and workouts don't lie). Go into it with confidence that you are as good as anyone else out there, and hope that your body finds a way to hold up during the race (it often does).

I'm kind of glad to see you're a little human :) Okay, I don't think a single one of us hasn't been there, but for me it isn't usually a tempo it is a 9:30 pace I feel I can barely hold together and feel like an utter failure! I feel your burn-out pain too. Maybe we just need a vacation? Like to Fargo? :) hehehe

I also agree with Jake. Give your body some rest and believe in your training and know that your body knows what to do if you decide to have it do it! You can do anything, that I believe!!

Thank you all so much for your feedback and support. It really means a lot to me. I feel really fortunate that when I have a terrible run I have such a great support system that can help put some perspective on things for me.
