I randomly won free entrance into this 5k on a fb giveaway and decided it fit well into my build for SLC half.  Of course I then ended up donating the race entry money because it was for such a great cause. :)

Anyway I know garmins lie but I ran the course twice (once as a wu) and it measured 3.21 & 3.18 so for my own self confidence I'm claiming my garmin time on this one.  Out & back course in Lehi.  First half mile was quite downhill which meant the last half mile was quite uphill.  Tailwind going out and headwind coming back.  Splits were 5:51, 6:02, 6:11, 1:04 (5:55 pace).  19:07 finish with 6:01 pace overall according to Garmin.  I was in the lead after mile 1 which made it incredibly difficult to push the pace.  I think I am capable of better but I am really happy with the effort.  I had a difficult time staying focused once I passed all of the runners going out and was all by myself.

Highlights of the race:  *My parents driving past me 1 min in and my Mom yelling "Don't let that little kid beat you!"

*My parents cheering me on at the half way point and then yelling as I turned around "slow down so that we can make it back to the finish!"

*High fiving all of the Autistic kids running on my way back.

*My Dad sprinting ahead of me (and keeping up with me) into the finish shoot!  He might be old but I'd put 100 bucks on him beating me in a 50 meter sprint.

*The amazing cinnamon rolls that Lehi Bakery provided post race.  Wow those were superb!

Overall they put on a really great event and I am really glad I decided to do this race.

Taking a win in my old stomping grounds??? How cool. Where at in Lehi was this? Now I am craving doughnuts from the Lehi Bakery.

Good job on an AWESOME race! I wouldn't mind a 5k with a 19:XX time.

Bec - it started at the church on 2150 point meadows drive. It went west on the main road (2100 north I think) towards redwood road and then turned around and came back. They did mention that they had to change the course last min because of construction.

Thanks so much everyone!

I am sure I have ran there. Lehi is so big now, I don't really like it as much. The bakery is just like it used to be though... :)

Nice job Rachelle. A solid 5K the week before a HM is always a good indicator that you'll be ready to roll.

Go Rachelle!! Courses that measure long add a whole new dimension of mental challenge!

Your dad is awesome!!

Great job, Rachelle! That is a bittersweet feeling to finish a race knowing you could do better. It means you will!! It sounds like a tough course for a 5k to finish with a headwind uphill. I've been told a headwind will slow you down more than a tailwind will speed you up.
