2 kind of awesome things happened this morning.  First of all I miraculously landed on a treadmill that went for longer than 60 min and secondly I felt oddly kind of great.  I was reading on Jackie's blog yesterday about "Aerobic Threshold" runs and realized this is a pace I rarely train at.  I am really good at running fast or slow but I rarely train at a steady state.  This is something I really need to improve if I want to PR in the marathon in 2014.  I knew I wanted to get a longer effort in today since I have school tomorrow morning so I just kind of went with it.  2 mile warmup and then 8 mile progression run.  6:58, 6:53, 6:48, 6:43, 6:39, 6:35, 6:30, 6:22.  I was so patient with this workout and I felt so good!  First 4 miles at 1.5% incline and last 4 at 1%.  1.5 mile cooldown for 11.5 total in 82 minutes.

Yay!! You and Jake are motivating me to stick to these "slower" steady state paces for tempo. It's so weird to not push so hard your body feels trashed, but I guess that's the point and the way you get to the start line feeling fresh!! Haha. Sounds like a fun run today!

The whole point of marathon-specific training is to get really efficient at marathon-specific paces.

I'll try to prove this works on Sunday :-)

Actually, if I recall correctly, you did quite a bit of work in this range (MP +/-) before TOU last year. So those results have already spoken for themselves!

Yes Jackie, I really am a true believer of steady state tempo workouts and like Jake pointed out...these tempo runs were the bread & butter of my TOU training. It felt so awesome today to finish feeling strong and like I could keep going if I had to. I did not feel trashed at all.

I'm not sure how I got so far away from this type of training but I'm looking forward to incorporating more of these workouts moving forward. :)

Nice! I'm glad to learn this so far out from Boston 2 Big Sur! I now have a fun Friday night activity tonight to go back and read your training for TOU 2012. I was bummed to find out Revenge of the Nerds is not on Netflix so your blog will take it's placeā€¦don't ask. :)

And then we have Jake's CIM to look forward to proving this as well!

Sounds like an incredibly exciting night Jackie! :) Heres a pretty good article I just found for you to add to your nightly activities. http://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/find-your-tempo

You did that on a treadmill!? That's awesome. Nice AT work Rachelle. It's great to see these paces are at your aerobic threshold.
