There was no way I was missing the gymnastics finals last night so it was yet another late night.  Totally worth it!!  I was obsessed with the mag 7 in 1996.  Bought the books, the t-shirts, got front row seats to the tour, made my Mom buy me a leotard and built my own balance beam in the house. ha!   I am totally feeling just like my 10 year old self again watching the Fab 5.  I love it!!  I will now spend the rest of the day searching for pictures of me in my unitard...

Anyway I did a tempo run this morning aiming for a controlled marathon pace.  1 mile warmup 6:57, 6:49, 6:47, 6:45, 6:40, 6:39, 6:27.  It turned into more of a progression tempo.  The first 6 felt good and controlled, the last mile felt hard.  2 mile cooldown.

PM:  5 miles easy.  Started with the pup, she lasted a whole 3 minutes so the rest was alone.  8:10 pace.

What marathon time are you going for? awesome tempo!!!

I love gymnastics, I'm so sad I missed it, but these days sleep is way too precious!

From Rachelle on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 09:42:04 from 159.212.71.77

I have no idea what time I am going for Carina. I feel fairly confident that I am capable of holding a 7-7:10 min pace for the duration of 26 miles but I need to work on my endurance I think....

From Carina on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 09:45:37 from 204.15.86.83

I think given the right conditions you could totally go sub three!! I say go for it, you are totally capable and your running so well!!!

From Andy on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:04:07 from 199.190.170.29

Based on your workouts and races, I think you are in shape to run 2:57-3:00. You just need to convince yourself you can do it.

From Kam on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:14:31 from 68.66.163.179

What Andy said. You are killing it, Rachelle.

From Jake K on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:16:50 from 155.100.226.54

Very nice workout, as always!

Wanna join our CIM bandwagon? :-)

From Rachelle on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:23:31 from 159.212.71.77

Thanks so much everyone! I do think sub-3 is in the cards but I do not think it will be my goal at TOU. If I had more time to train maybe but with only 6 weeks to build I am thinking 3:05-3:09 is much more realistic.

That said I may have to jump on the CIM bandwagon and chase after that goal...hmmmmm

From Jake K on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:27:36 from 155.100.226.54

Get that 3:0X first. See how many times in a row you can PR in the marathon :-)

From Jake K on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:29:05 from 155.100.226.54

FYI there are 11 weeks b/w TOU and CIM. Its actually a perfect amount of time for a 1-2 week break, 6-8 weeks of training during the COOL weather, then taper once it starts getting dark outside.

From Andy on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:34:25 from 199.190.170.29

I understand wanting to clear the 3:0X hurdle first but you are in a lot better shape than you give yourself credit for. You have had more than a year of solid miles, strong workouts and excellent races. With that said, there is no hurry and you are taking a very smart approach. Were you really only 10 in 1996?

From Rachelle on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:35:19 from 159.212.71.77

hmmmm I am becoming more and more interested. If I lived in SLC and could train (tag behind and chase) with Andrea and Allie it would probably be a done deal.

From NatalieK on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:37:41 from 174.255.147.141

Holy cow girl! (I know, I'm totally a Utah girl, for reals :) So great. I can't wait to see where you place at your next marathon.

From Kam on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 10:48:00 from 68.66.163.179

Natalie, don't you mean "Frills?" Rachelle, you just need to relocate north a couple valleys.

From NatalieK on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 11:03:20 from 174.255.147.141

So I go, frills, totally frills.

From Rachelle on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 11:37:24 from 159.212.71.77

Okay I have some real frills to show you. How in the heck do you upload a picture onto this blog?

From Kam on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 11:53:22 from 68.66.163.179

You have to have the picture uploaded to a picassa account or similar, then add the link in your blog edit window. (It's the button on row two, five in from the right.) I know these directions stink, but I'm not currently a technical writer.

From Rachelle on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 12:04:16 from 159.212.71.77

That sounds way too complicated. ha! I posted the epic 1994 gymnastics picture on fb. :)

From JulieC on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 14:29:04 from 71.35.249.7

seriously Rachelle you rock but nothing wrong with creeping up on subthree. That way when it happens you will be like "that was a breeze!!" I have no doubts a 3:05 will leave you with a lot left in the tank!! way to go girl! so happy for you :D.

From allie on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 14:45:27 from 174.23.149.58

i just saw the pic. easily the best unitard i've ever seen.

i agree with what has been said above, but my opinion is go for it! clearly you are capable. 3:05 - 3:09 is definitely realistic, but so is sub-3. use the fitness you've been working so hard to build. it's there.

From Toby on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 16:37:36 from 199.101.229.6

Your training is awesome this week! Nothing like a bit of Olympic motivation! I was a junior in HS when the 1996 Olympics came to Atlanta (where I grew up). It was my best racing year...lots of motivation!

From NatalieK on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 17:15:36 from 174.232.131.193

Sorry Rachelle, I know this is YOUR blog, but I can't resist.....

Toby, I grew up (until I was 10) in Atlanta as well. I have older siblings, did you know the Robbins?

From Rachelle on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 18:23:01 from 66.7.127.115

Julie & Allie - Thanks! I think I will wait and see how my training goes the next few weeks before I make any goals.

Toby - I am so jealous! Did you go and watch any of the events? We recorded all of the gymnastics and me and my sister would rewatch it every single day!

Natalie - You can write whatever you want on my blog. I suddenly have the urge to find a race in ATL. :)

From runningafterbabies on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 at 20:20:02 from 71.195.219.247

You don't have anything to lose going for sub-3! If you slow down the last couple miles, you'll still nail a 3:05 anyways, so GO FOR IT GIRL!
