I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

In salem with Jen, 7:38 pace.  A little tired but not sore at all really from the race and feet feel fine.  Such a frustrating and weird injury I am dealing with.  Hopefully I can get into a doctor this week to get an opinion and a little clearer diagnosis.

PM:  3.8 miles easy, 7:45 pace.  Felt really good.

What's wrong with your feets?

From Rachelle on Mon, May 06, 2013 at 12:49:45 from 199.190.170.24

Such a strange injury Aimee that I've been dealing with for almost a year now. When I run fast + far the balls of my feet burn like crazy to the point it is so painful I cannot keep going. It hurts like the dickens....but is also easy to ignore/forget about because it only presents itself when running fast + far. I have self diagnosed with metetarsalgia but unfortunately I have not yet been able to self fix.

That is strange! I hope you can figure it out :)

Have you tried using a toe separator when you are relaxing at night (like after a pedicure)? It could potentially relieve some of the pressure on the nerves and joints. Might be worth a try.

I have weird feet issues too when I run fast+far. Mine is nerves that sit too close to the tendons. Nothing I can really do about it :/ So I just deal with it. I'm interested to see what you find out!

From Rachelle on Mon, May 06, 2013 at 14:59:39 from 159.212.71.25

Andrea - thank you for the suggestion, I will try that.

Carina - Very interesting. It really is the oddest injury. I can handle it for the half but definitely not the full..there is just no way! Have you found any relief from custom fit orthotics? Have you tried them? I think orthodics might be something worth trying.

From Carina on Mon, May 06, 2013 at 15:07:06 from 70.208.29.90

Yes, my orthotics definitely help, but don't take it away completely. I know you can get cortisone shots to help, I've even looked into alcohol injections to kill the nerve. But it never bugs me till I've run long and hard, then I forget about it. There is also surgery, but I'm not willing to do that till I've tried everything else.

From Rachelle on Mon, May 06, 2013 at 15:10:53 from 159.212.71.25

Thank you so much Carina! I am so happy to hear that I at least have some options to possibly provide relief.

One more question - did you go to a dr to get your orthotics?

From Carina on Mon, May 06, 2013 at 15:17:48 from 70.208.29.90

Yes, a podiatrist. Dr. Stanley Phillips, he has a few locations so you can google to see which works best for you. My insurance covered my orthodics (luckily). Normally they are $300. But I've had mine for 4 years and run 7 marathons in them and they are still great. So it's totally cost effective.

Definitely worth every single penny if it helps. Thanks so much Carina!

Wow, you ran that half so fast and you aren't really sore?!! That's a testament to how fit you are. Figure out your feet and you will be unstoppable!

From Matt Schreiber on Mon, May 06, 2013 at 21:04:58 from 66.17.102.185

I really hope you get some answers this week about your feet. Its got to be frustrating. On a brighter note, how about you not being curled up in a ball after smoking that half!! Nice run today.

From JulieC on Mon, May 06, 2013 at 21:34:00 from 70.208.28.241

Just be thankful it is not all the time...every run every walking step....that really really sucks. I bet ortbotics will be the ticket. Dr stan phillips is great. Go to him for steroid injections.
