Personal:

I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

9.5 miles Santaquin Orchard Loop.  I was lacking pep in my step this morning....pretty typical for a Monday.  Averaged just under 8 min pace.

Planks/pushups

PM:  3 miles treadmill 8:22 pace.  I gotta get used to that awful beast as morning sunlight slowly dwindles away. :(:(

I spent a good chunk of the afternoon researching metatarsalgia which I am about 99% sure is what is going on with my feet.  So many red flags!

  • 2nd toe larger than the first. Check!
  • Wearing high heeled shoes. Check!
  • Intense training or activity. Check!
  • Pronating and flat footed running. Check!

So the game plan is to A quit wearing high heeled shoes.  This one is going to be tough. :(  And B I went ahead and ordered some ball of foot inserts.  They were only $4.50 so if they don't help it is no biggie but definitely worth trying.  I feel like if I had more support just in the forefront the pain would not be nearly as bad.  This little injury is not really sidelining me too bad and I only notice when I run 13+ miles but I really want to go into TOU 100% healthy.

I am always lacking something these days. I can relate! :)

Can't change #1, you don't want to change #3, and #4 is hard to change too... But high heels are easy to get rid of!!! There are actually a bunch of good research studies showing ow bad they are for your feet. Ditch the heels and sub three here you come! :-)

I feel your pain. I dealt with this for 2-3 months in the winter/spring.

Check out this site...see if you can massage at the trigger points indicated for different foot pain. For me it helped to massage the calf muscle, arch right before the heel, and in between the bones in the forefoot.

I have been suffering with Metatarsalgia for quite some time now and the only relief is from wearing the pad under my foot. At one point it got so bad that I could barely walk (before the pad insert). Now it doesn't bother me much, unless I run a long distance, but the pad definitely helps. But even then, it's not bad. Maybe I should break down and buy some real pads. I've been making my own out of used insoles.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It really is incredibly irritating. Weird because it's not like I can't run through it for the most part but the longer you run on it the worse it gets. It got so bad on my 16.5 mi leg of Ragnar I thought I might have to walk on my hands to the exchange! I used to be a gymnast and could probably manage about 30 min miles of handstand walking. :)

Andrea - I will check that out thanks. I have also spent my night relacing all of my shoes to widen them like you suggested. It's been a fun little activity if your still looking for something to do with your time. :)

Dale - Here is what I ordered. http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpage-SOFGBOF.html

Thanks for the link. I'll order them when I get back from vacation.

Maybe custom insoles would help? Nice to have answers though!!

I'm glad you've figured it out. It is so frustrating not knowing what you're dealing with.

And I appreciate the fact that mondays are harder for you cuz they definitely are for me! My sister and I call them "heavy mondays".
