8 miles on the Lehi JRP with Smooth, Karen, Karen's friend, Rachel, Chad & Rob.  It was nice to finally meet Rob in real life!  Running is so much more enjoyable when you have good company.  It was a great morning and the 4:55am wake up call was totally worth it.  I really like this route and one of these days I will have to actually run it in the daylight.

Chad & Rob decided to bust out a tempo and Smooth and the crew left early so I am left with an abundance of halloween goodies.  We will have to meet up again so I can get you guys your treats. :)

Can anyone recommend a good pair of gloves for winter running?  I was incredibly warm today except for my fingers which were freezing the entire time and still are.

PM:  2 miles easy.  So nice out!

Thanks for inviting me this morning. I bet if you leave your porch light on tonight someone will come take your candy off your hands.

I noticed Scheels had a really good selection of cold weather running gloves.

I wished you lived closer to me. I would totally help ya out with that candy:)

I like the Saucony Ulti-Mitts - they aren't overkill but they keep my hands pretty warm. I struggle w/ cold fingers too. They also have a little light (detachable) which is actually very, very useful in the dark.

And w/ a little internet scouring, they can be found for about 75% off. We also saw them @ TJ Maxx a week or two ago.

i wear heavy duty ski mittens all winter.

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 09:55:34 from 155.100.226.191

they are more like bear paws

yes.

I really like the Pearl Izumi shine wind mitt: http://alturl.com/np7nt You can tuck the mitt part away if your hands get too warm. These got me through all but the coldest winter runs in Laramie, WY. On the most frigid days, I used these Outdoor Research Mitts http://tinyurl.com/b4pm5jn , but I don't know if it gets cold enough for those here. My hands would get pretty toasty running in these.

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone. These all seem like much better ideas than the dollar store gloves I've been wearing.

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 10:05:49 from 155.100.226.191

The dollar store ones work for me until the temp drops about 10 more degrees. Once it gets below 35, I gotta bring out the heavy hitters.

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 10:17:47 from 163.248.33.220

Good gloves? You can go with Tina's fancy Pearl Izumi whatever if you are rich, but if you are a humble schoolteacher like myself you will favor an old pair of socks.

Rob she was talking about gloves for running outdoors, not for doing pre-spring break elliptical workouts :-)

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 10:30:08 from 163.248.33.220

You're right Jake. Gloves are no longer relevant to me.

From Rachelle on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 10:34:09 from 199.190.170.29

Jake - The dollar store gloves are great but I just have terrible circulation. It was warm this morning and my fingers were still freezing.

Rob - Just regular cotton socks? How am I supposed to eat my candy and pick my nose while I run without finger holes. Besides that dilemma it seems like a fantastic idea and I am sold.

From Rob on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 10:35:26 from 206.71.84.68

All my socks already have holes in them so you can still pick your nose and adjust your Garmin.

Thanks for the wonderful run and treats this morning Rachelle! I too just use the dollar store gloves, but when it gets cold I have a heavy pair of cheap knit mittens I put on over them (like $5 from target). They are super warm and cheap. I've tried some other 'cold weather' gloves and none work as well and they are all much more expensive. If you cut the ball of the foot out of the socks, then you have arm warmers and mittens you can pull back when you need to pick your nose :)

From Carina on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 16:31:15 from 204.15.86.83

I use the ones they had at Costco a few years back, I think the brand name is head. They are great. On super cold mornings I just double up with a cheap pair I have.

One of these days I really will come run!!

From Brooke on Thu, Nov 01, 2012 at 00:05:42 from 155.100.9.11

I agree with all the mitten comments, no matter what type the material as long as I can hold my fingers in a ball they stay warm.

From Smooth on Thu, Nov 01, 2012 at 16:45:33 from 65.130.14.36

Thanks for organizing this fun run!!! It was so nice to see you even for a brief moment!!! Sorry we didn't stay around and get your treat bags...thanks for bringing them! :)

My fingers are like Brooke's, they have to be touching together to be warm. I prefer mittens over gloves even when I ski! :)
