Personal:

I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

2 mile warmup and then 4 mile tempo 6:42, 6:39, 6:28, 6:35. 1.7 miles back to my house.  It took me a minute to transition from the 5k/10k all out effort I was used to last week to the HM/MP effort.

Anyone coming up to watch TOU that wants to run me in the last 6 miles?  I'll buy you icecream for life!!

A great reminder of why Slowing down the easy days is so important!  If Elite runners are running 8:30-9+ pace on their easy days than I darn well should be too.

A few of my favorite points:

  • The key to racing fast in the marathon is lots and lots of slow miles.”
  • you have to learn how to run slow…. just like you learn to run fast!
  • By going this slow on my easy days, I felt refreshed on my hard days and could crank the pace/effort harder than I ever had.

Hmmm ice cream for life might actually be a better prize than winning the race outright... that's worth at least $100,000... maybe I'll just sleep in and jog over to the 20 mile mark and start from there...

That sounds like the best plan...and then you can quit this silly tapering thing already! :)

From Jake K on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 09:58:28 from 155.100.226.191

Haha yea.

Good workout this morning - especially slowing down on that last mile and not cranking out a 6-flat. Save it for Saturday!!

If you're in the money, you might not be allowed to have someone run with you! :)

Good luck this weekend Rachelle! Psyched to see how you do! Wish I could run you in on my bike, but I will be out of town. No ice cream for life saddddd.

I love your key points. It's soooo true on the learning to run slow. I have the hardest time w this but slowly getting it down.

I had a brain fart, for some reason I was thinking you were running St. George but now I remember that you are indeed doing the TOU marathon. Good luck girl!
