1600m STATE CHAMP!!!!! Yes way! It feels SO awesome to finally do it! I went into the race ranked 2nd (by 6 seconds), so for the first three laps, I stuck right on the girl ranked first and another girl was right behind us. As the last lap started, they both started to gap from me, and I almost let them, thinking "Man, this hurts and sucks, why do I even do this?!" Then the other half of me said, "Go GET them, you idiot, you want to win, not lose again!" So, I took off with 300m to go and ended up winning by 4 seconds! And I PR-ed by 5 seconds and got the school record! I literally couldn't stop smiling for the next couple of hours. Splits were 1:13, 1:19, 1:20, 1:16. Woo hoo!!!!!

Then we had a downer of an afternoon; our medley got DQ-ed because our 200 to 200 handoff went past their zone. So, I started my leg of the race, then Holt yelled at me to stop since we were already out of the race. So, I ran 100m of that, then walked back around to the start line and was frustrated for a (long) while. But it's done and I can't do anything about it and... I'm still 1600m State Champ! Yessssss! YOU ARE AWESOME! I'm SO proud of you. You had such a great state meet and it couldn't come to a better person. Congrats again and again on doing so good. You are going to just keep getting better. I'll miss you lots though!

From Dustin on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 01:41:02

Way to Go Ruth! Congrats, sounds like an awesome race. You deserve it, you've worked so hard to get to this point.

From Benn on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 09:32:25

What an awesome way to end the season. FRB is so proud of you, Ruth! What a high point, huh? I bet you're feeling on top of the world now! What a phenomenal race! Huge PR, school record, AND State Champ?! Doesn't get much better than that! Oh, did you go celebrate with some serious "I kicked everyone's butt" ice cream? I agree. You've put in serious miles and you've made great strides (pun intended ;) ) in your running career. With a little more speed work I think you will be close to sub 5:00 :) Man, you put me to shame. My best time in my year of track in high school was a 5:12 and I thought I was all that! I'm sure some Commando points are in order. I will let Brent distribute those for ya. Again, GREAT JOB!!!

A big congratulations! Way to listen to the angel who told you to go for it. We all have two voices, we just have to listen to the right one. Great to have such a strong PR. And college will be awesome, way better than HS.

Thanks everybody!

Benn - I actually did have some Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (BYU Creamery type) ice cream, though it was after the medley disappointment... but it still tasted awesome!

Clyde - I do have the BEST coaches (and we both know it)! :)
