AC in the AM, nice and easy with Austin, Kimzey, Decker and (for the last bit) JFree. It was colder than I expected. (Thanks Decker for letting me borrow your gloves.) Legs a tad sore, but they loosened up after a bit. Then Amanda and I got our legs waxed! First time since January and it feels awesome. It'll be smooth sailing in the race today! Woo hooo!

First off at the meet, I ran the 3200m. It was AWESOME! Before I was really nervous that I wouldn't be able to pace it very well, but it felt great. I think I started out a tad fast, but I settled into a comfortably fast pace and stuck with it. Splits were pretty consistent: 1:18, 1:26, 1:28, 1:28, 1:29, 1:29, 1:29, 1:19.  PR-ed by 10 seconds, qualified for state by 22 seconds! And I took second place barely - by a "crazy lunge!" (DD spike 39)

Then I ran the 400m just for the heck of it and got 3rd place in my heat (and probably really bad overall). My time was 1:05.25, so I PR-ed in it by .52 seconds. A little while later, I ran to Wendy's, bought some dinner and then ran back with my food. It took me 13:15, and it felt like about 7:40/mi pace, so I'm guessing it was about 1.7 miles. (DS2 419.95)

I won't make it to the meet tomorrow, since I'm flying to Baltimore from Las Vegas at 6 AM tomorrow. Sad day, since I'm missing my favorite events - the 1600m and the Medley Relay.

congrats on the pr's on both fronts! I can't remember my pr from high school, but you probably have that. My pr in the 400 is a 65 too.

Sarah was in our region when I was coaching at Bear River, she is very good. I would have liked to seen that race. I'm sure you will get another shot at her. Way to PR at the very beginning of the season!

Running 210 miles in February did help. However, to be competitive against low 11:00/sub-11:00 girls you probably need to move up to around 250 miles a month and sustain it. Looking at your speed vs endurance, you are still not getting your 400 worth in 3200. For a comparison, at the age of 13 I had the following PRs:

1000 - 3:03.8, 1500 - 4:49.1, 3000 - 10:08.2. In the 1000 I hit the 800 split in 2:25. If I was racing an 800 I probably would still have been no faster than your 800 PR of 2:23. My 1500 would convert to about a 5:08-5:10 1600, which puts me 6-8 seconds ahead. However, my 3000 would convert to about 10:49 - 10:50 3200, which is now 36-38 seconds ahead! Assuming we have equal disposition to distance, you should be able to run comparable times with comparable mileage, which for me at that time was around 50 miles a week. If I were to go back, though, I would train different - same mileage, but only one 4 mile tempo run at 6:00 pace, and the rest easy. I was doing 4 speed workouts a week at the time, which was counterproductive.

Sub 11:00 would be very nice, this puts a serious claim on winning state.
