So nervous for the races today! I was hoping for some more excellent times, but I can keep improving from here. We got our new uniforms today and they are most triumphant! Woo hoo!

First off, I ran the 1600m. Overall the race was kinda slow - lap splits were 1:18, 1:22, 1:24 and 1:21. The wind was kinda rough, so there weren't the greatest conditions ever. And my legs are/were pretty tired before I even started. I need to remember to give it more guts next time - I had way too much left at the end, I think. Won by about 15 seconds in a small race. (DD spike 40.2)

Then, I warmed up and ran the 800m. No good. Wasn't really mentally there strongly and had forgotten how much that race is supposed to hurt. Time was 2:30 - ouch. Second place. What a pathetic race. Again, not fast enough overall. Not a good race, but I'll be better next time, definitely. After that race (which was supposedly my last), I was angry and went to cool off/down on a run. Ran around for a couple of miles, then found a nice place and gave myself a talking-to and made some more short-term goals. Then, when I was feeling better, I ran back - total of 4 miles.

Later, the person who was supposed to run leg 3 of the 4x400m ditched out, so I got to run that! By then, I'd completely lost my mind! Ran a pretty slow split (1:08), but we won the race, which was lots of fun! (DS2 481.1)

Don't be so bummed. You ran killer times! I know that when I was in high school, a woman's 800m would usually be WON with a 2:3x something at sectionals and state quals! And a 5:25 mile = woot! Way to smash them and show them how its done. Don't get down that your speed isnt there yet. Bare in mind you did a lot of endurance running this winter and your primary race was a half marathon. You have the base, now it's just a matter of honing in and finding that next gear :). Besides, it's better to be putting the petal to the metal towards the end of the season, then to peak way too early and just get "ugh" times all the way you know? You'll do great in the coming months - get ready for a super outdoor season! Best of luck and Happy Easter!

Super track meet Ruth. Winners always want to do better! There is Always another race. Another Meet! you will come back next week.

The ground shook and mere mortals parted as Ruth made the turn in the final lap of her Race.

"By then, I'd completely lost my mind!" I'll vouch for that! Good job yesterday ya crazy!

From Mike Warren on Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 13:15:37

Ruth, great job! I know you are going to just keep getting better. All the great ones are always thinking they can do better, never satisfied! You can't teach that, you either have it or you don't. I love your attitude and how you compete, Awesome!

Great Job on the win in the 1600. I read in the paper where Liz Ricks won the 800. I was good friends with her last year, when I taught at Snow Canyon and I told her she would probably be a decent 800 runner and she said "oh no, I'll stick with the 400." Too bad they can't get her out for Cross Country over there, she is another one of those soccer players. Anyway, hope you have a good weekend and don't get down on yourself. Like Mike said you have the right attitude, so you'll keep working hard.

Thanks everybody (except Mik'L. jk) you are so supportive, I don't think I could get down on myself with such awesome friends! You're awesome.

Nice job Ruth way to run, your doing great and don't worry it wasn't a big race anyways and next week is the big race. Good job though and we need to start running together again and talk about your trip. See ya
