Humm, Well that was a tad bit Extreme/Insane/Stupid for a casual Monday morning run, here is the time line of my thought process this morning.

4:00, Ohh!  I don't want to get up, maybe I'll skip the gym today,

4:05, Maybe I'll just do an easy slow run this morning,

4:25, (driving to gym) Maybe I'll try my 10 miles in 1 hour run today.

4:45, (Stretching out on treadmill) Maybe I'll just start out at 6:00/mil pace with no warm up, and try to just keep that pace for 10 miles.

4:55, Humm, I think I can go faster than this

5:30, Hey, I'm on track to beat my 1/2 marathon PR.

5:55, Oh, I think my legs are going to collapse

5:57, Oh, I think I'm going to throwup!

6:00, That was awesome. I beat my 1/2 PR by 1 minute

7:00, Ohh!  What the &#@$ was I thinking.

It's not quite official cause I had to do a treadmill reset at mile 10 and took a quick water break, but I think I could have done it without the break since I actually started up at mile 10 slower than I had left off.  I was feeling pretty sick by the end and really wanted to stop, but I made it through.  I'm sure everyone at the gym thought I was nuts.

5:00 am.  I did something really nutty yesterday after my 1/2 marathon PR on the treadmill.  I'm going to Anaheim this weekend for a 2 week conference, excited to start my training schedule in a nice warm place :)  Anyway, I saw that there is the LA 1/2 marathon this Sunday so just for fun I went to the sign up page but it said it was sold out.  Not leaving good enough alone I then went to the 5K sign up page which wasn't sold out, in the 5K page I noticed that it gave me the option to select signing up for either the 5K or the 1/2 marathon.  This sparked my curiosity and sure enough I found a loophole in the system.  So, it looks like I'm running a sea level 1/2 marathon this weekend.

(If you know my wife, (this means you Carina)) don't tell her.  She would kill me if she found out I'm running a 1/2 marathon on Sunday when I'm suppose to be working.  But I figure I'll be done with the race by 8:30 and be back for work before I'm even missed.

Back to today, I tried to take it easy, but I really struggle running slower on the treadmill.  I started out trying to keep my HR at or below 140 but after 3 miles I gave up and started running faster.  Still a recovery, but I may need to replace recovery runs with swimming during my schedule just to insure I truly do recover, even at the risk of lower total miles.

5:00 am.  2400 Meter swim in 60 minutes, I can't seem to get faster than that, about 1/2 mile / 20 minutes.  But my flip turns are getting much better :)

Feeling very refreshed after today's swim.

5:00 am.  Good run today, not to hard but enough to get the blood and legs moving.  Threw in some sprints at the end, it's hard to get accurate splits on short treadmill sprints cause a couple of seconds changes everything.  I did 0.1 mile sprint, 0.1 mile jog x 5. So that's like 160 meter sprints, it takes the treadmill a few seconds to get to speed so I would say ~100 meters are at full speed.

I suppose the times don't matter as much as just getting the legs moving.  13.2 mph - 15 mph.

5:30 am.  Slept in an extra 20 minutes,  nice.  And went to the gym for a plan of 6 mile easy run.  Threw in 1 quick mile to do (dare I say it) a mile of goal 1/2 marathon pace for this weekends race.

After my 1 quick mile I decided to run a mile recovery, after I stopped I noticed Riverton Paul who lied to everyone by saying he wouldn't be running for 6 months was on the treadmill in the back row, so I went and ran 2 miles with him and chatted about his achilles tendon and the treatment he is going to do, ouch!!  Nice run, I'm going to attempt to not run tomorrow and blame it on travel to get ready for Sunday.  Luckily I have been upgraded to first class on my flight that always makes it easier to relax.

No, run today but I wish I would have, I woke up at 4:00am and just laid in bed fretting about work and my run tomorrow, sometimes its better to just get up and get moving.

Perfect temperatures here in Anaheim, It is so nice to get out of the gunky cold and smog of Utah for a few weeks.

I'm sitting in my hotel room now, watching football and wishing I didn't have to go run a race tomorrow, I feel like I'm in good shape, I don't hurt anywhere but I'm just having second thoughts about doing it for some reason.  Oh, well, it should be fun, hopefully I will perform well but I keep making up excuses for why I won't already,  I need to stop that.
