Well, this is going to be a huge problem, I have found the worlds least runner friendly city.  I'm staying at the Encore in Las Vegas,  I decided to run the strip since it is lit at 5:00am, well I ran that for a bit and found out this city really doesn't ever sleep, there were people harrasing me, Taxi's running over me so I decided to find a less populated route and ran out to Koval the road that goes behind all the Casinos, well about 1/4 mile into that some guy started chasing after me, yelling who knows what.  Luckily my sprint speed was faster than his and I hurried back up the the strip where at least there are Police around.  Dealt the the crowds and traffic and ran to the end of Mandalay Bay, then there weren't any people, which oddly enough was even more creepy.  That was 3.5 miles decided I'd had enough anyway and made the trek back to the hotel.  I did get lots of stair workout in going up and over all the bridges, but that was about the only good I got out of this run.

The hotel gym costs $15 per day, which at this point I'm willing to pay but they don't open until 6:00am and close at 9:00pm.  Not sure what I'm going to do...

I tried running at 5am in Vegas once. It was nasty hot. I ran on the strip and there were always stop lights to slow me down. I didn't have anyone yelling at me like you did but It wasn't any fun and I was scared to run anywhere else at 5am. I was only there for a couple days so after that one run I called it quits.

The heat wasn't horrible, just traffic and rude people mostly.

Do you have a car? If you do, head out to the Clark Canyon Wetlands Park at the east end of Tropicana. It is a nice park with trails that I have run around many times (lots of loops) that is open from dawn to dusk. A nice alternative to the streets and not too far of a drive. Otherwise, head up to Red Rocks.

Thanks for the advice, I do have a car so maybe I will try that. My work schedule is nuts for the next 2 weeks, we work from 7:00am to 8:00pm everyday making running very difficult. My job has it's perks but every once in a while I have to pay for them.

sorry about the rough run this morning. the park sounds nice though -- hopefully you can find some time to get out there. good luck with all the work stuff.

Running in Vegas is a total joke!! I tried it once. I think we ended up driving to a suburb and running a route we found on mapmyrun.com.

Yuck! Yeah, I'd head out to the burbs as well. Good luck with getting the miles in.

I ran the Strip the year (2008 or 2009) we went to the Mountain West Conference basketball tournament for two days over the weekend. One was a 18 miler down the Strip one side and back on the other side. It was not that bad at 6 am and running up and down the pedestrian crosswalks was nice workout. We were staying at the Egyptian Luxor and we didn't have a car. But I think running the trail suggested by Jeff sounds much better.

Sorry you had to work such crazy hours in hot Vegas!
