Rode from my office up Big Cottonwood, for some reason I thought it was 14 miles to Brighton, turns out it's closer to 16 from my office and I started running out of time.  I went to mile post 15 which is half way between Solitude and Brighton, then turned around for a really cold descent.  Not sure if this should only count as a 15 mile ride since I pretty much coasted all the way down.

There are people on Strava that average 15mph up that canyon, I didn't average 15 for the total ride.  Crazy.

I'll never do it, but it seems like a tough ride. When I am driving down and see people walking their bikes in the bottom section of the canyon... I just feel bad because they are in for a LONG suffer-fest.

You should run it, there are definitely sections that I was thinking I could probably run up faster than bike.

Is Strava some kind of PED?

From Lulu Walls on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 11:50:26 from 155.98.164.38

Nope it is some sort of evil comparison software.

The downhill Strava speeds are even more frightening. Averaging 40mph with all those curves - eek!

From Rob on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 12:24:02 from 166.147.88.47

Nope but with the yearly membership I think they send me coupons for all my online PED needs. It also tells you your hematocrit levels based on how fast you can climb Little Cottonwood.

:)

It's like Fastrunning blog with more technology and better stocking features

Redd told me about this yesterday...

Wow that is super interesting! I have been a little bugged about a downhill segment on Strava in City Creek where peeps were clocking over 30mph where the speed limit for cyclists is 15mph and there are pedestrians and dogs everywhere. Maybe Strava could team up with the police and issue speeding tickets (only slightly kidding).

I like to think that people in general will hold their own safety and especially that of others over the desire to regain their KOM status on a silly computer program. But I think I am missing that competitive gene...

I don't understand the point of virtually racing workouts (and I don't use it, but what I've heard about Strava leads me to belive there is a lot of that)... isn't that what actual races are for? When the roads are secure and you can safely go really fast? But what do I know! I suppose there probably aren't nearly as many cycling races.

From Rob on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 13:03:33 from 206.71.84.68

I was kidding about all of that stuff LuLu. Oh except the stocking part, it's really good for that, I know exactly where Lance Armstrong every day.

Oh my last comment was in regards to the link Jake provided.

I honestly like Strava mostly because I like maps and I like looking at other people's crazy trail running routes. I have found it a fun way to track my personal progress.

I had absolutely no idea that people were getting killed trying to get their leader status back.

From Rob on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 13:08:53 from 206.71.84.68

Wow, that was a really coincidental comment I made before reading that link Jake. I just signed up a couple days ago, I didn't realize I was joining a cult when I did it. Same thing happened when I joined the Church, maybe I should read more before signing the dotted line ?

From Jake K on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 13:10:50 from 67.177.11.154

Nothing wrong with a little cult activity. My best friend growing up used to keep a picture of Marshall Applewhite framed on his wall, just to drive his parents nuts and make them worry!

The Strava maps are cool. All maps are cool, really.

I gotta say, I'm really excited I still have at least 3 followers left on the running blog. I figured all my biking was probably boring everyone.

Just for the record, I'm still in pretty bad shape. I'm sure if I actually started going to Doctors 9 months later I would end up on the operating table like Andrea, and those pictures scared me too bad to do that. I keep hoping cross training will help but so far it's not helping.

From Rob Murphy on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 13:48:15 from 24.10.249.165

I need to get out more. I honestly had never heard of this Strava deal before this.

From Rob on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 14:12:52 from 206.71.84.68

I'd seen it before but never really paid attention until last week when I became a cyclist.

If I were as fast as Jake I would go around and get all of the biking KOM's running.

From RAD on Mon, Jul 01, 2013 at 17:01:13 from 76.27.82.202

Last week when you became a cyclist? ha! I like it :)

Good thing you got back to work on time, your boss probably would've fired you if you didn't!

I'm not sure I could handle the pressure of strava, I'd probably have to import the doping software so I could keep up with people.

Jake, I agree on the race thing...I really just don't get Strava.
