I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005. I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running. He said "You'll never run again.". What a challenge! So...I started running.
Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.
I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all. I'm not fast. I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

| 8.5 mile out and back in North Logan at noon. 82 degrees. First mile was a good easy pace, I ran it with a co-worker that just started running. He turned around at the 1 mile mark and I kept going and turned around at 4.24. Good easy run in the heat. AP somewhere in the high 7 min/mile pace.

| Noon: 1.08 miles with a co-worker who is just starting out. Slow easy warm-up. Then broke off and went 9.67 in a loop in North Logan, up to the deer fence trail, joined up with the Ragnar runners who were running it. I ran on the that section of the Ragnar course for about 4 miles, and then broke off and ran back to work. Nice jog, not too fast. Last 9.67 was in the high 7 minute mile pace. Jogged with a few Ragnar runners who were going slower and chatted with them a little on the course.
