Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

10 miles in North Logan.  Stomach was feeling good, but I went out slow to baby my knee.  The only real uphill sections of this run are miles 2 and 3.  Everything else is small rolling hills or back down.  Uphill my knee felt ok as long as I concentrated on my form, and then it was so-so for the rest of the run.  Little slower to help out the knee.  7:41/mile AP.

Noon:  6.07 miles in North Logan with John S. Nice and easy.  7:28/mile AP.  Afterwards did a slower cool down mile at 8:24.  Felt good. Knee was a little sore when I got closer to the edge of the road where it was angled more--toward the middle (more flat) it felt a lot better.  Still a little sore.

I also retired the Brooks Trance which may help the knee a little - 617 miles (good shoe).  The Brooks Ravenna's only lasted around 370 miles.

10 mile out and back at noon.  Good run, great weather, felt good.  Started out slow to not push my knee as bad, went slower up hills, and then increased the pace. 7:25/mile AP.

18 miles - Smithfield, Smithfield canyon.  Good jog.  I left around 8:00.  Ran down towards Hyde Park, then up past Sky View High School, then up Smithfield Canyon and back.  Today was also the Shamrock Shuffle 5K.  When I got down by the high school I was at mile 15, I noticed it was about 15 minutes before the start of the race, so I ran the Shamrock Shuffle backwards.  When I has a bit less than a mile left, the 5K started so I was able to see Conner, Claire, and everyone else pass me going the opposite way.

Finished up at the high school.  7:30 AP for the 18 miles.

Afterwards, I hung around to see Conner and Claire get their awards.  I also was able to do a slow cool-down for a couple of miles with Conner and Nathan.

Nice that the weather is starting to feel a little more like spring.
