Disappointing SLC marathon in 3:46, guess it serves me right for not doing anything long. Through half at 1:44:45 which I thought was controlled, given my heart rate throughout. However, I struggled as early as 18, and then just didn't gut it out.

(Sasha -- is there a way to change my blog so I can log the easy miles, marathon pace, etc.)

Paul, it was a tough day to gut it out with the warm marathon tempature. I had several friends that also ran the marathon and walked several times during the last few miles. We are not alone in thinking we did not have guts. I ran SL marathon last year in 3:36, 14 minutes faster. I was in better shape this year. I wonder if the weather really did have an impact on our races? Are you recovered? Good luck on your fall marathon.

Paul - I have switched you to a different template. However, all of your old mileage is recorded as easy. Fix it up as needed.

The marathon was a beast, especially for those who run it in over 3 hours. Nobody out of those I checked expect the winning man and woman got anywhere close to a negative split, although the course renders itself to one very well.

Early June is a very bad time for a marathon that starts at 6:45 am! Heat tolerance does not develop until late July/early August at least for me. I did tell Greg Reid you need to start it at 5:00 am to avoid heat problems.

Paul - I think for you the problem is not so much that you do not go long, as in your average daily mileage. Long run once a week will only trash you if you do not back it up by consistent training throughout the week.
