7 miles on the TM in 52:30 (7:30 pace), including two 800's @ 6 min/pace.  Planning to run a 5k on Friday night.  At the same time, not wanting to really taper for it.  It's more of a training run for the Litchfield Road Race the following weekend (7.1 miles).

Good luck in the 5k. I think those are fun to run this time of year and a great addition to your training.

you have motivated me to put the miles in, I have not noticed a problem with the jump from 50 to 70 plus yet. I am trying to be careful but yesterday after the first 10 I got it in my head to make up the time on the last 10 miles to break 7 min average, I am stubborn that way. I am just not convinced that long and slow is the way to go for long runs, its hard for me but at the same time I would hate to get injured again.

Hammer that 5k, I am going to run a 5k if the family allows Sunday morning. Would love to get a sub 18 in at least.

Todd,

Nice...I think the volume will definitely pay off. I don't think running half the 20-miler is a bad thing, yet running a full 20miler fast takes it toll. I try to build towards doing 20-milers every two weeks and 1 of 3 give it my best, another keep it slow (except maybe 6-8 miles of tempo), and the third run maybe 16 of the 20 at mp.

My weakness is the shorter distances. I'm going to try to run a few 5k's this summer and would love to get down to low 18's. I'll see where I'm at to start with tomorrow. I'll be happy with mid-19's for now. If I can lose 10 lbs this summer, I'll probably pick up the speed I desire.

Keep up the good work...glad you seem to be feeling better!
