No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Tri group. 10 miles on the bike, 5 easy and 5 fast(20+ mph). 3.5 miles easy run @10:20. My legs are toast after 30 hilly miles on the bike and "swimming" yesterday. Looking forward to some more time in the pool today.

Cool, enjoy the tri training! I sink like a rock or would tri it.

Bob - Me too, seriously. I couldn't swim a stroke before last week and now I can at least get across the pool. 45 years old isn't the best time to learn something new, but it is possible. I will do a tri, even if it takes until next summer to get the swim down.

Are you training for a Tri?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 17, 2013 at 12:05:00 from 174.253.213.79

IJR - Not for any specific one right now. Kym just asked me to join a tri training group with her and I reluctantly agreed. I may be in over my head...

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 18, 2013 at 14:35:26 from 174.255.177.124

IJR - Update: I have a tri on my radar now. I won't be registering until I can swim 1/3 mile, but the goal is to "race" on 8/31 if I don't drown before then.

Yeah...! That sounds fun!

I did a Sprint Tri last July 4th and planned to do an Olympic this July 4th (not now with the broken collarbone).

I didn't do any swim training on the Sprint and had no problem, I just swam slow. I hammered the bike and run though!

I don't think you will have any problem with the swim if you are a relaxed swimmer.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 18, 2013 at 15:03:42 from 174.255.177.124

Relaxed? Not! I never learned how to swim as a kid. I've never even been in water over 5' deep without a flotation device until last week.

Maybe they'll allow you to wear FLOATIES..!

Extra thick wetsuit. Like the Michelin Man.
