Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Started out NOT wanting to run, I knew it would get better if I just gotout and I knew I wouldn't have another opportunity today if I didn't just go, so I went.

I felt good the first few miles and stopped at mile 3 to get a nice little drink before heading up the monster Herriman hill. I actually felt pretty good heading up the hill, so at the top I decided to add a little on. The plan was only for the 8 mile loop, but we all know about the best laid plans...

Headed up to the Herriman Reservior where the Tri was held. Those are some good hills I tell ya! I took a nice flat loop around the water then headed back down to Butterfield Park on the bike route. Only problem was by this time I was regretting not eating beforehand. I was feeling light headed and nauseated. I need to eat before I run. It would come and go, so I just relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful sunrise and watching the sun peek over the tops of the Wasatch. I live in such a gorgeous place! Totally worth the nasty hill climb.

Finsihed out the miles and then since I needed to get home (and I was already behind schedule adding 2 miles on) I took a new shortcut home. Kind of a fun little easement to connect 2 neighborhoods and make it easier for kids to walk to school. It was perfect, ended just over 10 instead of the long way which would've finished around 11. Perfect!

Now I'm sitting in the waiting room at the hospital. Just sent hubby off to have his galbladder taken out. Fun times... Good thing the gym is closed for renovations this week and I don't feel cheated missing FIT class. Yeah, that's my biggest worry this morning...

Since I don't have my Garmin I'll have to update splits later, but I looked and saw AP of 9:16 for the run, which for all those hills and the way I felt on the good downhill sounds pretty good to me!

Unfortunately, sometimes there is more to life than getting a morning run in. Today was one of those days. I am not a runner...I am a person who runs. Today the person had to come first and the running will have to wait until tomorrow.

Well, either my alarm didn't go off or I sabotaged myself and turned it off - I have no conscious recollection of either. I nearly made my kids late for school. Woke up at 8:15 and had 15 min to shove them out the front door - YIKES! So, needless to say I didn't get my peaceful morning run in like I was hoping for.

I did get off to the gym, but by the time all was settled at home and I could leave I got to the rec center (Lifetime is closed this week) it was after 10. When I got in there and got all the info about things, I found out the day care was only open for one more hour. Sigh...run fast!

I got 5.5 miles in before they made the announcement that the day care was closing in 5 minutes, and I wasn't surprised that when I got down there Adam was the only one left. Yup, that announcement was for me! So, I paid my dues and left. (AP: 8:45)

I did get a nice short bike ride in while I ran some errands and went to a meeting, but now my day is back to the walls and painting...maybe some cleaning if the family is lucky!

There must just be something magical about running with Kelli. Luckily she was just taking it easy this morning, so I tagged along instead of trying to do a tempo with the BBK's. I felt wonderful the whole run, the pace felt easy and I could just jabber away all the crap floating in my head as we wandered down the parkway. 

We got finished and I felt fantastic, more like a 4 mile run - not 8.5! I guess this is what 'tapering' does for me. That and cutting out all the extra x-training/resistance/classes I do all week on top of running. Then I noticed our pace was  8:41 for the miles and I just about jumped out of my skin. I'm finally starting to come back from my cruddy Ogden/UVM/injury days at the beginning of the season!  Now if PCM doesn't screw it all up for me, I might just be able to hit my goals at SGM.

AP: 8:41 splits:  9:14, 8:45, 8:31, 8:40, 8:39, 8:37, 8:34, 8:30, 8:34 (last .5) *even consistent splits...I tell ya, this girl is magic for me!

Since the gym is closed and I took yesterday off of painting I've got 5,000 and one things to do at home, so no yoga (grrrr) and I'm passing on the rec center workout as well. Back to gettin' lucky around the house!

One of the best, most amazing, fun and fabulous races I have ever ran! Rode up with Karen, Smooth and Becca and then met Teena and Lowell before the start. Hung out in the lobby of the Hotel staying warm until the final 2 min count down. We were off to a wonderful start! Teena of course took off, the rest of us were just there to mosey along and enjoy it :)

Wandered around Park City for 26 fun filled miles of chatting, harassing, picture posing, and over-enthusiastic cheering of all those we passed. Had a great time picking up extra gu's etc. at aid-stations and we all just stuck together and had a wonderful time. I think if you added up all the time we spent just stopped at the aid-stations you could take off about 15+ minutes from our time. Honestly, I would guess the AP (of running mind you) was around a 9:30.

It's kind of funny how despite all the fun and 'talk' going through your head we all seem to just drop dead silent and just want to be done around mile 22-23. We all just got quiet and simply enjoyed one another's footfalls and breathing. THEN the finish line becomes the chatty room again. Full of celebration, fun and eating! Finally getting to talk to and get names of the people you've leap-frogged for MILES and get a few more pictures.

Some highlights for me:

*taking the caffeine gu at mile 13 - holy moly that put a nice kick in my step and some fun comments in my brain :) Okay...I never shut up, but all the extra energy was coming out of my mouth instead of coming out of my legs! Now I know to keep one of those in my pocket at SGM so I can let it come out of my legs!!!

*The top of the Deer Valley loop - seriously you should have a short party there. The end of the MILES of uphill, so my party was chasing down Larry driving away. I sprinted as fast as I could to catch/keep up with the car, he said it was about 10mph - oh yeah!!

*Empire street - oh that hill? was that a hill? I didn't even notice :) RAN up it. Took it by the horns, threw it down, sliced it up and ate it for breakfast. Heck yeah baby! Everyone else was looking around wondering who the crazy woman was that had enough energy at that point to do a hill sprint up that nasty thing. LOVED it!! When I hit the top and could see the nice downhill stretch I spotted a pair of flag shorts and got to chat with the ol' Slickster! Good times baby!

*Jumping for a picture at mile 18.5ish aid station. We'd lost Lowell by then, but all 4 girls posed for Larry and jumped in the picture! Again, everyone around us was looking at us like we were crazy for having enough energy and mind to stop and take a jumping picture that late in the race!

*95% - yes, the last 10K I promised Karen (no more lies!) it really was all downhill, a few parkway rollers of course, but REALLY 95% downhill. Every time we'd come to one of those rollers Karen would curse "Raaacheelll!!!" Then I'd yell back 95% I'm sticking by my 95%!!

*The last mile. About .2 ish after the mile marker for 25 I looked back (I'd gotten a bit ahead of Smooth) and noticed that she was safely in the company of Karen and I wanted to see if I had a good pace mile left in these ol' legs at the end of a grueling marathon. I turned it up and finished with an 8:38 split, which with the bit that I was going slower I'm going to guess was at my 8:15ish goal MP. I was really able to hit the gas after a guy with a sprinkler on the trail near the finish hosed me down! He got my 'favorite person' award for the day. I was going strong and when I hit the mile marker 13 for the half I put it in gear. My final split for the last .1 split was an AP of 5:51....wow, I didn't think my garmin would work going that fast :) I love a strong fast finish and being able to feel like I have it left in my legs!!!

*The company. I seriously loved this race more than all rest for so many things it gave to me through the wonderful people that accompanied me on the run. At one point Smooth said I could leave her. I denied the request and told her I'd be poking my eyeballs out with a knitting needle if I wasn't there running with her! I needed an escape this weekend after the rotten week I'd had and I got it - more than I probably deserved. Thanks all my wonderful peeps for putting up with my antics, whining, caffeine high and craziness. It was WONDERFUL!!!

After the race we did lunch at Cafe Rio with families, our pre-race group and EricO. It was simply delightful. The only warm, quiet, uninterrupted meal I'd gotten to eat all week!

My only complaint is that my feet hurt. I've never had my feet hurt before and I'm blaming it on all the trail/gravel running. I have pampered feet and they aren't used to such pounding abuse. I came home and stuck them in an ice bath! They are feeling better today, and I feel I'm ready to run tomorrow. We'll see what the feet/legs have to say about that when I take off in the morning :)
