Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

The good thing about snow in April: it doesn't stick to the ground, it is warm enough you don't have to wear 10 extra layers, if you get thirsty you can just stick your tongue out for a few seconds and refresh!

The bad thing about snow in April: IT'S APRIL!!!! GIVE ME SUN!!!

Uggghhh, another cold, snowy early morning run; however, I will say that it was quite enjoyable. The wind wasn't bad at all and besides getting pelted in the eyes a few times with flakes the snow didn't bother me too much - nice and softly falling.

The plan was to run 4 miles before meeting at 6:30, but I didn't get moving fast enough this morning so I only had time for 2.75 and it was a lot darker than I thought it would be. Thank goodness I know the Lehi JRP like the back of my hand - and no creepy people were out this morning.

As I came back I saw Smooth, Chad and Maynard and then who should appear? LUZ! I didn't think I'd see her after her full just a couple weeks ago, but she came back for another round with us :) The company was amazing and all around wonderful, I seriously don't know how I would run without wonderful people around me to chat with. Poor Maynard got to listen to me ramble on about my amusing 3 year old's antics for a few good miles, until he had to duck out to a 'green house' and finally dropped me and my pestering stories :) Just always remember - if you run with me: beware, I WILL talk your ear off.

Got back to the car and with a load of new info about how to keep myself healthy through this grand slam season (thank you Luz and your plethora of unending information!) and with only 2.75 miles to finish up. Smooth and I quickly took off North for a few loops around the park for her to finish her 13 as well. I only had a short out and back on the Southward trail when we got back. Seventeen - ahhhh!

I really felt good this run and the company kept my mind off of any little aches and pains (only felt my quad once for a bit). Honestly, the quad feels better now than it did Thursday...strange, I know. But, I'm thinking that it may be my x-training with squats and lunges etc that is adding the extra strain on it. Who knows, I'll have some good answers Tuesday.

Thanks to everyone who made this another wonderful, memorable run for me! I don't know if it's the parkway down there I love, or all the peeps I get to run with there!! Now, it's off to surfing and dipping for a fabulous anniversary celebration (belated...it was last month)!

Sounds like you guys had a blast!!! I am so happy that your quad behaved. :)

Congratulations on a wonderful run with great friends, and in spite of the snow.

Incidentally, the creeps were probably all asleep after their partying and drinking last night. That's what I figure about morning running in the dark.

Teena, it was a wonderful day! Well, besides the snow...

Carolyn, I always think that too! Especially Saturdays.

GREAT run Rachel!!! It is always fun to run with you!!! I seriously don't know how you do sooooo many things so well! Hope you had a FUN and FATASTIC surf and dip with you sweetie! :)

Oh, I didn't even check my Garmin for splits until I read your splits here. I thought I was running in the high 9s or 10s. I am pleasantly surprised!!! :)

Both the run AND the snow, IMHO, were awesome! And the company!

If you hadn't been rambling (very entertaining rambling, I might add) it would have been a very quiet run. I don't really talk much...

Hope the belated surfing went great!

Wow, Good on you woman, a 17 miler! Looks like your right on schedule as it's a mear 42 days till the Ogden MArathon and your first test in the Grand Slam Series????

From RAD on Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 14:53:52 from 98.202.17.113

allie, please tell the mayor we've had enough! :)

Smooth, I guess I don't feel like I do them very well - I just fake it until I make it :) We really were cruising and (at least for me) it felt great!

Maynard, I'm glad you enjoyed my rambling - hopefully now you at least don't feel stressed with your 17 year old :) The surfing was really fun. I'm SO sore now though - 17 miles is nothing compared to an hour of falling on your butt! The Melting pot afterward was the perfect topper to it all.

Slick, Ogden schmogden! :) I'm topping out that week then tapering from there to race UVM, so I'm sure it'll be good. I'm hoping to put in a few MP miles at Ogden, so we'll see...

I am lost...what IS surfing and dipping?

From RAD on Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 17:13:40 from 98.202.17.113

QP- check out surfing by googling 'flowrider' - there is one in Ogden. Dipping was the incredible Melting Pot for dinner (fondue restaurant downtown).
