Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Speed work Six

On the TM again, learning to love it again :)

10 min warm-up, 1 min on/1 min off speed work X20 (40 min total for speed)

7:19 for the speed and 8:57 for the off - finished my 6 a little faster than anticipated, at the end of my last on (pushed a 7:03 for the last min) AP: 8:11

Next time I think I should do my 'ons' a little faster, 7:19 didn't feel like it pushed me as much as I would've liked. Maybe more like 5K pace rather than 10K. I will play with this next time

Good thing I finished quickly - I was late for masters swim class! Jumped right off, changed and got going in the pool. Felt SO good to swim! 50 min workout in the pool.

I think I run those even faster than 5k pace, I think that was the suggestion when i was told about that workout, anyway! I can not remember, it has been a while. I do know that you should feel like you can not go for 1 second past a minute, which might require your OFF's to be slower. This is Rhett's workout and he runs the ons at 12mph and the offs at 5mph, just so you see how slow even speedy people do the offs!! I have messed with it some, and some days I just do not feel like going all out!!!

Great double workout today. Hope swimming was fun! was your husband home today again??? LONG workout, lucky girl.

Kelli, that sounds more like what I need to do. I'm not saying the 7:19 was a walk in the park, but it certainly wasn't "I can't go one second more!" pace. I just get scared about going fast - afraid I can't do it and I'll die :) I need more confidence in myself I think. Next week, I'll try a 6:30, I think that would be a tolerance point for me - maybe :)

Husband isn't home, I just feel okay leaving the 2 oldest at home together and I throw the others in the day care. 2 hours - gotta make the most of it! :)

WOW!!! You're back in full force training mode already! Those are some speedy 1 min ONs. I like that workout a lot. It was actually from an elite woman runner published in the RW's "Follow the Leader" advice from the world's best runners.

You're doing awesome with swim class too! :)

You're getting in some awesome workouts. Ncie job, Rachel.

20 times? I'd loose count before I got half way there.

They let you do 2 hours now???? We had to stop at 90 minutes. Cool for you! I did not realize your kids were off track.

For that workout, it just really depends on how I am feeling. BUT, I have complete confidence in you that you can do a 6:30. Just remember that when you crank that speed up to all out, you have to go really super easy on the OFF minutes to recover.

From RAD on Thu, Oct 13, 2011 at 15:42:36 from 76.27.16.189

Smooth, I guess there are lots of good 'leaders' on FRB to follow!!

Dale, onward and upward!

Chad, you just go by minutes - only way to keep track. 10 min warm-up then your next min is on (so odds on, evens off) for 40 min. I can't keep track either - this is why I just use the time :)

Kelli, yeah, I've even gone 10 min over without complaints :) Sometimes when I get there right at 9, masters swim goes over time and I don't get there until 11:10 ish. No one has ever said anything to me. If I go that high I would have to shuffle/walk the offs! But, if I want more speed out of my legs I've gotta find it in there somewhere!
