Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I'm all over the 6's this week! Just a perfect number to start back with I guess.

Short on time due to a pre-schooler not getting up and ready on time, but I couldn't figure out how to do my run since I had done speed yesterday. So, I decided to do a hill interval.

1 mile warm-up @ 8:49

mile 2: same pace, but start at .5 incline and up every quarter mile, ending at 2%

mile 3: downhill fun and speed -1% @ 7:49

mile 4: I can do better than that dumb, easy incline grade the first time. First quarter .5%, then up 1% each quarter finishing at 3.5% all at 8:49 pace.

mile 5: another downill -1% @ 7:41

mile 6: half and half, gotta get home, no time for seven. Started at .5% then increased every tenth of a mile to finish at 2.5% and increased speed. Started at 8:41, but dropped to 8:34 about half way through.2nd half of the mile I went downhill -1% at 7:41 pace, then gradually increased speed to finish at 6:30 for the last .5 to finish up fast.

AP:  8:31

Walked for a tenth of a mile, then raced home to get my daughter to get her back to the rec center to do her sports class thing.

At home I decided I wanted to do yoga, so Tony Horton lead me through a good 90 minute yoga routine - yogaX baby. Tip of the day: don't attempt the wheel pose when your clingy baby is crawling all over you and laying on your chest/throat. They don't get up and roll off like you would expect  :)

Nice workout!

I tried yoga a couple times, but I get way too antsy after 15 minutes. So I'm impressed that you can do it for 90 minutes (and with a little one crawling all over you too).

Andrea, with the kids it's all about creativity! Not the relaxing easy stress reliving time I'm used to, but good all the same. My muscles needed a good stretch out and that is what I like most about yoga, the stretching. Makes me feel almost whole again after a week of running.

Nice workout!! Incline makes a huge difference on the treadmill. :)

I am so jealous your treadmill goes "downhill". That is fancy.

From RAD on Thu, Oct 13, 2011 at 17:04:05 from 76.27.16.189

Rachelle, it IS fun. I like that I get to do both up and down, it's a new rec center so I think the TM's are fancy because they are new. Incline does make a huge difference - another reason I like the downhill function :)

That's an advanced move.

I like neg incline treadmills too :-)

(a 2x4 under the back of the treadmill makes for a decent decline too)

good workout today Rachel!

Nice run and Yoga. I remember when my kids were young doing exercises with them on my back, stomach and clinging to my leg.

From RAD on Fri, Oct 14, 2011 at 02:05:14 from 76.27.16.189

Burt, oh - I AM advanced! :)

QP, I thought if I started to go up into bridge he would get up and move off my chest, but he just rolled down onto my throat and I just about killed the both of us! He was hanging on!!

Allie, it helps that they are cute, well, THE cutest :)

Brent, I still need to chat with you. I keep thinking about it, but dang life gets busy. Thanks for your support.

Cal, when I get my cheap one at home I will remember that! And not to put it under the front :)

Nancy, yes, don't they always make it just a little more exciting?

From DaleG on Fri, Oct 14, 2011 at 03:49:42 from 152.216.11.5

I'll have to try the 2x4 trick. I always stack some of my free weights under the back of the treadmill to give it a decline.

Nice workouts!!!

Adam is so dang cute! If I were attempting the Yoga thing while that was happening I would just have to stop.

POOP!!! I miss you. I still haven't ran since the marathon, I wil attempt that at the marathon I do this week. Looks like you're already back on the train. :) Good to see you putting some miles in the bank.

Haha! Glad to see you are back at your running and exercising with baby. I remember those days! Now my 4 yr old just exercises right along side me.... I love it! Your pt advice was great! I think I've seen the runner pt at tosh. I can't remember his name. I'm going to dig his card back out. I saw him once in July for bursitis and he gave me some great strengthening tips.
