Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Every excuse in the book was with me this morning. I really just wanted to grab my book and hit the elliptical. But, then I realized my tight, achy ankle, upset stomach, sore throat, achy muscles, head ache and overall fatigue were just those little gremlins telling me that I can't do what I want to do. I am stronger than they are, I am.

Decided to give myself a little break and do only 15 repeats instead of 20. This would give me 6 miles (with a cool down) and not pushing to 7. I'd still do my speed workout and give my body a little break as well. I am truly getting sick, or am sick, but I will fight this thing tooth and nail! My ankle hurts as well and now has a nice purple bruise the length of the outside of my foot (about 5 inches around the metatarsal area, just above the 'fat pad' line to the sole of the foot), but it was the inside part of the ankle that felt tight this morning. Blech, I'm SO done with all of this!!

6 miles on the TM - 10 min warm-up at 8:34; 1 min on (6:11 -9.7mph)/ 1 min off (9:31 -6.3mph) repeated 15X (30 min). I had about 7 min of cool down afterward that I ran progressive starting at 8:57 and finishing at 8:00. TT: 47:06 AP: 7:50. My AP before the cool down was 7:43, but I tell you - that last sprint just about killed me. I was seriously dizzy and exhausted. I was done and had to talk myself into each and every one of the last 5 sprints! I was SO glad it was done. I needed a nice, easy cool down.

Finished off with Masters swim class. After warm-up did 50's progressive (1:00, :55, :50) - 3 sets; 2 of my 50 second laps I was able to hit in 48! Then we did pulls 200's - my goal was 3:30, did a 3:45 and 3:38. Not too shabby - especially today! Then I worked on some bilateral breathing drills and then daycare time was up and I was out of there.

I'm exhausted today. Just exhausted. Falling asleep typing this, but have a little buddy here waiting for me to play a game with him. Maybe I'll convince him to take a nap with me for the next game :)

Oh, and yes - the house still smells like bacon.

Mmmmm! Glad to know your house still smells good! :) You make me feel bad today! I can't believe you were that fast and still worked out when you were feeling that crappy! Way to go! I'm pathetic!

Steam, I probably shouldn't post all my whining. Makes it sound worse than it is. I'm just trying to give myself excuses and make myself feel better. Maybe I will after a nap :)

I had a very similar blog about 2 weeks ago trying to fight off an on coming cold. I hate to tell you but if it's the same thing I had it will hit you like a bus tomorrow morning :( Way to push trough it though, I swear working out with a cold makes it feel better in the end.

I hope you feel better! Get to bed! :)

You're so strong! Good job today.

Hope you feel better!

Rob, oh please no. I can't get sick. I'm fighting this one with all I've got and refuse to say I'm sick! Denial, my best trait.

Steam, thanks. I tried, got about 40 minutes of nap time. Woke up to a 4 year old that had eaten a whole sleeve of Ritz crackers on the couch...well, half crushed all over the couch and half in his stomach. Oh, the joys of napping with children! I guess it could've been worse.

Cathrine, strong or stupid - haven't figured out which :)

Andrea, thanks. A little nap did help.

Wow, I can't believe how tough you are. Six miles with a sore ankle and feeling sick and then swim class, I couldn't do that even if I was feeling great.

I feel barfy just reading about your workout mixed with bacon :) Take a well deserved rest day!

This is your sick workout?

I like mine better :-) (Donuts & sleeping in).. that's why you're such a great athelete!

From RAD on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 13:25:36 from 98.202.23.178

Nancy, thanks, but the swim I look forward to as a relaxer - had to do it! :)

Toby, you will never think of me without bacon again!

Brent, I need to start back into spinning again. I just want the PF to be gone before I kick it up to that level again. Masters swim class is a great workout! You should check it out at your gym. ALL levels!! I'm probably mid-pack swimmer at my classes.

QP, I probably should've done your workout, but I guess I felt like it was more of a whining workout, not a sick one. Sometimes it's hard to tell a difference between whining and sick :)

6 miles while feeling like crap deserves a Niiiiiiice! You always seem to get it done no matter what craziness is going on in your life. Hope you got some leftover bacon.
