half marathon: 1:26 (Hobble Creek 2008)

Short-Term Running Goals:
Get back to a BQ marathon time (currently 3:40).
Long-Term Running Goals:
Have fun running, keep fit, and fight middle age spread. Run consistently and injury free. Maintain a healthy balance between running and other life priorities. Encourage my ever-aging running buddies to keep running so we can continue to share runs on the trail instead of rocking chairs.
Personal:
Blessed to be married to Karen for 30 years. We have six children (4 daughters/2 sons) ages 16 to 30, and one wonderful granddaughter.
Larry and I ran the Monday route. I taped my big toe and it didn't hurt too badly. I wasn't able to push the pace much, but it felt good to be able to run. I think it should be fine for TOU in two weeks.

I imagine you're pretty much in taper mode right now. I've just been interested to see what kind of schedule you were going to follow, particularly with a sore toe. Hope everything's going well for you.
I don't really have a taper plan. The sore toe has sort of forced me to taper anyway. So far I've just been doing our normal runs, but a bit less agressively than normal because of the sore toe.
I think I'll just continue to take what my toe will give me.
I think I could take pain killers and get through the marathon as it is, but I hope my toe continues to improve over the next 10 days. I don't want to aggravate it, but I'd like to get a few more runs in at marathon pace.
Today is Wed 9/13. I'm planning to do the extended Thursday run (about 8 miles with some hills) with Larry tomorrow. I think I'll test the toe on Friday with the 5K run I did last Friday, at marathon pace. Depending on how that goes, I'll decide what to do on Saturday.
If you (or others) have any taper/toe recovery suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.
I was wondering the same thing yesterday so I posted a question for Sasha on my blog and he answered what he thought I should do for my taper plan. I figure us running the same pace give or take a bit so you should check it out. Look at my Tuesday 9/12 blog.
Thanks, Cody. Your Sasha-approved plan looks good. I will use it as a guide.
