Have fun running, keep fit, and fight middle age spread. Run consistently and injury free. Maintain a healthy balance between running and other life priorities. Encourage my ever-aging running buddies to keep running so we can continue to share runs on the trail instead of rocking chairs.

Blessed to be married to Karen for 30 years. We have six children (4 daughters/2 sons) ages 16 to 30, and one wonderful granddaughter.

I started the day by running the normal Wednesday hills with Kurt and Kent. Once we started up the hill Kurt took off. I think Kent and I pushed pretty good, but it was no PR. We took it easy back down. We had to watch our footing through the torn up road down 1600 N, but held a pretty good pace. I didn't kick too hard because I was planning to run again at noon.

At noon, I went out with Cory to do the Lake View run across the freeway from Novell. We saw several huge trees that had been uprooted by the storm yesterday. We then noticed the downed power pole laying near the gate at the end of the trail. We cut through a yard and discovered that there were quite a few down power lines and poles, with lots of crews working to repair them. The main street was blocked off so we had to weave through some side streets. Rather than come back that way, we went north and then east under the freeway and worked our way back to Novell. Cory's GPS said we went just over 5 miles. With all the stopping early on, it was hard to figure our average pace, but I think it was around 7:40/mi.

To answer your question about TOU/St. George back to back. The way I do them is run both of them hard. However, I can get away with it, and would not recommend the same approach to everybody.

For you, I think you will get the best results by approaching TOU as a training run of sorts. There are several ways to do it. I personally do not like putting all of my eggs in one pre-marked basket. What I would do in your situation is go through the first 6-8 miles of TOU on pace for a PR. Then make an honest evaluation to see if it is realistic for you to sustain that pace to the end. If you feel confident, keep on going. If it feels hard, back off and jog to the end - call it a long run. If you want to totally bank on a good performance in St. George, run TOU at 3:45 pace until you cannot stand it any more (hopefully for the right reason), and then speed up and have fun passing people.
