A solo run to the Orem library and back. Mild temperatures again. I ran the first four miles at an easy 9:00-ish pace. I decided to push mile 5 and ran it in 7:27. Even when I backed off back to an easy pace it was faster than I was running before, 8:20 instead of 9:00. I think of this phenomenon as shifting gears. Sometimes it isn't that much harder to run 30 to 60 seconds per mile faster, I just have to mentally shift into a higher gear. |
