Avg Pace:

Elevation Gain:

A 14 mile run @ 8:54/mile AP in 2:04.  The plan was to get it done at 8:55/mile AP.

9 of the 14 miles are done at 8:50-9:02/mile AP.

Good consistency amongst these splits.

Mile 1, 4, 10, 13 and 14 @ 9:23, 8:42, 8:46, 8:35 and 8:46.

Figured I would save the faster miles for the tail end of the run (first mile split off pace by 28 seconds and so the plan was to be on pace by Mile 13) to simulate what I would perhaps need to do during the actual Marathon.

Got a 12 miler done yesterday at 8:57/mile AP and today a 14 miler done at 8:54/mile AP and thus a total of 26 miles this weekend (Marathon distance) at Planed Marathon Pace (PMP).  I am planning to get the Marathon done in 3:53 at 8:55/mile AP.

I ran the Hartford Marathon because the longest run I did in the past five months was a fourteen miler last Sunday.  And that is not going to be enough for the New York Marathon preparation.  I just have been lazy when it comes to running long.  So I figured I would simply run Hartford and finally get a long run done.  My plan was to run 8:55/mile pace.  But I apparently went out too fast and was at 8:38/mile AP at the 13.1 mile mark.  I tried going slower up front, but just could not find the 8:55s.

My Garmin watch reports 26.4 miles in 3:59:43 @ 9:05/mile AP

Per unofficial results for Hartford Marathon

13.1 miles @ 8:38/mile AP

20 miles @ 8:49/mile AP

26.2 miles @ 9:11/mile AP and completed the Marathon in 3:59:38 which is 5:18 off my best time of 3:54:20.

Placed 898 out of 2,630 overall.

Placed 636 out of 1507 for males.

Placed 57 out of 145 in Age division.

Not a bad result given the lacking Long runs.

I do very well for the first sixteen miles. From there I get noticeably slower.

The fact of the matter is with the Marathon distance – as can be seen by the above, is all about how you manage the last 6.2 miles.

Anyway, I am fine with this result.  Not too far off from my best Marathon time.
