Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Just looked at some of the potential races you listed for this year... simply in terms of cool places to visit w/ the family - the Sneffles and Lead King races are going to be awesome. Ouray / Silverton are probably my favorite towns in Colorado... you really feel like you're in the old west when you are down in the San Juans. And anywhere in the Elks (Lead King) is amazing to visit in the fall... the whole area around Aspen is a lot of fun.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking for ways to explore Colorado, and these races seemed like a pretty sweet way to do it. Plus they are all part of the USATF grand prix, so there is money at all of them...plus I was forced to buy a 2012 USATF membership for Trials, so may as well use it... The Lead King looks particularly cool to me.

Another fun event that the kids would probably love is the Teva games in Vail (usually early June). In addition to watching the dock dogs (probably the best event) they have a few races including a 10K XC/trail race that you could probably kill everyone in and take home some good prize $$ too.

That looks cool too. Maybe for 2013. I'm trying to limit myself to 6 races this year.

Probably smart... 4 marathons in less than a year is a lot

Paul - just curious - what kind of shoes did you run in for Houston? I did the Chevron Houston in Type A4s and have been paying for it ever since...

From Jon on Fri, Jan 27, 2012 at 00:05:03 from 98.71.175.203

A4's? I think Paul likes them just cause they match his red singlet.

Saucony Type A. I don't know which version, whatever was out in 2008! They have almost 400 miles now, and I love them. And as Jon noted, they match my singlet. :P

My feet were pretty shredded from all the choppy concrete on the Houston course, but not much worse than normal.

Hey Joe - I'll chime in (I know my Saucony shoes!). Paul's red Type As are the A2s, most likely. As the newer versions have come out, they've really stripped down the shoe over the past couple years. I wore the A3s for the Utah Valley Marathon, but the A4s are even more minimalist and aren't great marathon flats (in my opinion, especially on a course with lots of concrete). I like them, but for shorter races. I wore them for a 1/2 that had a lot of concrete, and my feet took a beating. The Fastwitch is a great option for 26.2 that you might want to consider.

That's interesting - the older A2s are a LOT more similar to the new Fastwitch than they are to the A4/A5s.

Thanks Paul.

Jake - I actually bought the fastwich for that marathon on your recommendation but then changed my mind (to the type A's) since they felt so much lighter and faster...figured I needed all the help I could get. Live and learn, I guess! It worked out though, and I do like running in the fastwich.
