Perfect day to run, mid-50s and slight breeze. Ran from work, north on the Power Trail, brisk up-tempo pace. Had an interesting experience, where a runner actually caught me from behind while I was tempo'ing. This doesn't happen much, especially in southeast Fort Collins. The guy ask me if I want to work out with him, which sounded good to me. Turns out his name is Rob Watson, #4 ranked Canadian marathoner who recently ran 2:13 at Rotterdam. He went to CSU several years ago, and is in town staying with friends before Bolder Boulder, where he is running on the Canadian team. It was really nice to run with someone, especially someone of that caliber, and we cruised along at 5:30-5:40 pace for most of it. Ended up with 7 miles, averaged 5:42 overall. Felt really good the whole time, it's amazing how cool weather helps.

okay, just read his blog, pretty funny stuff.

It's kind of funny because I was actually speeding up while he was behind me because I don't like the feeling of someone running right behind me, and I thought he was just some random Fort Collins guy doing like a half-mile windsprint or some sort of cross-fit stuff. I felt kind of foolish once I found out he's world-class.

he's one of the few true elites that is candid and open about his training, etc. every once in a while he'll say or do something crazy and the letsrun crowd will go nuts - that's how I discovered his blog.

yeah you never want to get rolled down by a crossfitter. its definitely better on the ego when you find out he's a 2:13 guy :-)

No worries - just let me know. I'm pretty laid back/informal. I'm 44 years old, and would like to try and break 3 hours and, perhaps, run Boston again. My best is a 3:06:47. During my last training session, I was running 70 miles per week (+/-). If your not interested, I completely understand!
