Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Had a 4-hour drive home, long enough to do a little thinking. I decided to pull the plug on Houston, and take the next couple weeks off to rehab my hip and groin. Running at 80% is no fun, and would just make for a pretty pointless weekend at a US Championship event...those are only fun when you're at the top of your game, not the bottom. Fortunately, I was flying Southwest, and could easily transfer...now going to Indianapolis first weekend of May for the Indy Mini Marathon, which will get me a legitimate PR attempt in the half this year. I feel much better about that than about running a guaranteed crappy race in houston.

Sorry to hear about the injuries and no go for Houston, but it sounds like a wise choice to change to Indy (you have had good luck there!).

Yeah, Indy usually goes well, plus I can hedge my bets by seeing family too (so not a total waste of time if the race goes bad)

Sorry to hear that Paul, but you're making the smart call. Racing when you're banged up never really pays off, and just starts a bad cycle that is hard to get out of.

If I had booked on SW I'd be more inclined to skip it as well. I'm not hurt, just not at the top of my game. I still feel like I can pull out a respectable run, so I'm justifying my decison that way :-)

Yeah, you're in better shape than you think. It's one thing to not be in top race-shape, but another to have a constant hitch in your stride.

From Jake K on Wed, Jan 08, 2014 at 14:34:58 from 199.190.170.28

Yeah, you don't want to be over-compensating and create an injury that's worse than what you started with.

I think I can at least run as fast as I did in Duluth, and that would justify the huge appearance fee :-)

I feel good about that too;) get healed up and come back strong like you always do.

I don't book race flight on anything other than SW, due to injury/sickness/life factor. Very handy.
