Woke up bright and early and waited on J-Hat to pick me up and we went down to hop in the car with Ean...We took out about 5a.m. from Ean's place and went to Ada to participate in the oldest running race in OK.."Fireball Classic" 5k/10k
This year they opened up some serious money for the overall winners if they broke the course record.. 1000 bucks for 10kers and 500 for the 5kers.
I had some competion coming up from Tx in the master div. which I never have beat...until today..
We got to the race just in the nic of time as we walked in to register the older stressed out with a serious additude woman told us that the registration was closed and we were too late. I quickly gave her my saddest puss and boots face and told her we had drove all the way from OKC to run this race and she let us in...
We took off a few minutes after the 10k and the weather was less than ideal..Not getting a chance to run on the course before hand I wasn't sure what I had gotten into.
My comp took off at what I would guess 4 min+ miles and I settled into low 5's in hopes of them coming back to me at the hills.
The course was a double loop and I managed to catch him at the half way mark...I put in a surge somewhat going down a small hill and tried to maintain. By this point the next dude was a good 30 secs ahead of me and i dipped and dodged through the walkers on my second loop..
I kept trying to listen to the people cheering to see if anyone was close... with about 5-10 meters i was surprized by a nice kick from Johnathan K which took me right at the finish..
Did a cool down with Scott, J-Hat, Ean, and Ben Chesang afterwards and we had a huge portion of the Tuesday night speed group meet up for some breakfast in downtown Ada...
Had a really good time with some good running buds.
