Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Short, easy run outside after work.  Didn't have much time before my wife returned home and I had to pick up my son.  Still it was nice to run outside in the cool, but not cold, air.

Hill work on TM: 6.5M of incline varying up to 4%.  Nothing too strenuous but enough to get me introduced to hills in preparation for Robie in 7 weeks.  I did a lot of hill work last year by this time but I'm going to try a different approach: 1 hill workout per week and a lot more long runs to improve my cardio base.  I think this will keep me fresher and be a better prep for the bigger priority which is the marathon in early May.

Easy TM recovery run.  I'm taking tomorrow off to rest up for a long run (18M) tomorrow.

Long, slow out and back on Locust Grove.  Weather was beautiful w/ bright sunshine and temp near 50.  Through the first 10M I really felt good and thought I could go 20M.  Started to tire shortly after 10M and probably drank too much Powerade.  I'll go for 20M next weekend.  Sobering thought: according to my log- this time last year I was about 18 lbs lighter and running much higher mileage.
