Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Tentatively scheduled for surgery, multiple laminectomy & discectomy, on Thursday. I say tentatively because my insurance company hasn't approved it yet. Typical.

At least now you can name your pain and have a path forward. I hope everything works out with the insurance company and you feel ok going into the procedure. We will be praying for you through the surgery and for a full and easy recovery.

Hang in there.

Thanks Jeff. I'm a little nervous but you're right, it is comforting to know where/what the pain was coming from. Looking forward to running pain-free very soon.

Good luck Neil and hope all goes well and back to running very soon.

Wow--double disc rupture? Its been a week since my microdisectomy and I'm feeling great. I can now put on my own socks and my leg feels 100% better. Still slight toe tingling, but it gets less every day. I hope it goes well.

Thanks. Delighted to hear your recovery is going well. I'm a little nervous but excited to move forward to feeling healthy again.

Good luck Neil. Hope this is that light at the end of the tunnel for you, and you come out a new man.

Thanks Joe. What's that they say about lights at the end of the tunnel? ;)
