Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Drove down the road just south of Meridian to Kuna, Idaho.  I haven't done any speed work in months so I was interested to see how I'd do.  The course was more difficult than I thought and .12 miles long.  The first couple of miles were rolling along the Boise River then slightly uphill.  I started off right on my goal pace of 6:54 but quickly faded w/ 7:22, 7:14 & 7:10(.22).  I passed a couple of people, including one younger fella in the last mile and wasn't passed by any other runner.  Speaking of "getting chicked"- I was passed by the female winner in the first 3/4M.  Somehow I maintained my dignity and was able to fend off any feeling of embarrassment. 5PM: Biked 4M w/ the kids this afternoon; I pulled my 3yo and 5yo in the carrier so it was a decent strength workout.

Great job on the run, maintaining your dignity, and pulling the kids later!

Haha. Thanks. I guess I'm not nearly as fragile as some others on this board. ;)
