Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Established a PR by 12 mins; splits were all within 10 secs of 8 min (8:04 avg) w/ the fastest being 7:50 (mile 1) and the slowest 8:54 (mile 10); temp in the low 70's for this early morning race; flat course along Boise River Greenbelt from Hawks Stadium to Bronco Stadium and back; did very little specific training in the 2 weeks leading up to the race unless you count backpacking w/ a heavy pack and fishing; well organized race w/ more than enough aid stations, a medal, t-shirt and a nice breakfast burrito at the end of the race; will probably do this race again next year.

WOW that is a great pr. It is great when training pays off. Keep it up and that marathon will be a great experience.

Great race and nice PR! I ran this race back in 2005 and really enjoyed the course along the river when the race started at the old Albertson's HQ building on Park Centre. The RD (Jeff Ulmer) does a pretty good job on his races.
